Break in period?/ Procede (or xede) Chips?

Is the breakin period for the 335i copue or all cars for that matter 1200 miles?

Also can u feel the difference with the performance chips? like the Procede (or xede)?

Does a bear shit in the woods?

I'd give a good 1k miles for breakin. Opinions vary though.

1. procede is not a chip, or ecu reflash. It's a piggyback ecu.

2. i wager that 40hp is VERY noticeable.

What are these polar bears you speak of? Oh, were they the bears way up in the Arctic where there used to be lots of ice?

I broke mine in for 20 miles or so before doing a few 0-100 romps. Runs great.

Yep... about 100 miles and then drive it like you stole it. Just vary the RPM ranges to let the rings set nice.

"DONT BREAK IN A LAZY MOTOR"

this has been beaten to death and yes most will say use the search yet there hasnt been any way everyone has agreed on.

using that method, how do u treat the car for the first 100 miles?

im doing a PCD and will most likely do a hard break in, so im wondering how i should do things for the first 100 miles. still vary the rpm's and engine break alot? I will most likely be on local roads for a bit, then just highway.

There are so many variables in this question that it may never be settled properly. In order to properly test the theory of hard versus easy break in, you would need VERY carefully controlled laboratory conditions.

You would need to have identical engines, which with normal production tolerances would be extremely difficult to obtain. With those identical engines, you would need to run them in a lab controlling all other variables such as fuel, load, oil, etc. The engines shouldn't be in a car because that introduces even more variables. Also, it would be incredibly difficult to get the exact same injector performance, CPU performance, airflow, etc.

After you break in the engines according to your preferred method, you would measure performance under perfectly controlled conditions. You would likely do this several times, then swap all of the electronics, injectors, intakes, etc. between engines and remeasure to prove that the engines were the cause of the power differences, not the electronics. Even with all of this work, the results would only be valid if you had a large sample size.

I don't believe that anyone will go to this much trouble. So, everyone will continue debating this and will ultimately just use whichever technique that they think is best.

I have seen the results of tests from an engine builder who performed tests similar to the ones that I described. He claimed that the hard break in period yielded more power. However, without seeing the data and test procedures, it is simply hearsay.
