335d e91 Problems...
Hi, I'm new and now the prowd owner of a le mans blue e91 it's a late 57 plate and i cant stop smiling, but I have 2 major problems which have only developed since driving home 180miles, firstly I noticed the back window looked wet when the weather was sunny, I couldnt find the rear washer switch? where is it?, so left it until i got home, the car drove fantastic! until i took my wife for a spin when i noticed the engine stuttered once or twice then was ok, but when i pulled up at a junction the engine died and all i could do was crank it for about 20-30 sec then it fired ok, I tried changing my key (nothing) then i noticed the idrive said something like engine fault or engine management fault, then it dissapeared and everthing is fine again, it hasnt done it again tonight but i'm really concerned I might get stuck somewhere, the info on the idrive says no faults, then I looked at the back window and their was a fine mist of grease/diesel all over the window and bumper, cleaned it of ok but what could it be?, the car has had a standard remap could this be the cause? it's only done 28k and still has bmw warranty, will they just blame the remap and void my warranty or should i contact the people who remapped it and have it removed? I've just got one last question the garage said it had bluetooth but i cant find any mention of it in the idrive (pro nav) version,it's got a fin on the roof, how do i check? sorry for the long post

The ecu will store a code, so just take it into BMW and they will sort it- you might want to take the map off first. And has it has different rear lights, that would indicate rear end damage, so this could lead to your other problem.
I hope you sort it

Rear washer - you push the right hand stalk away from you - 2 steps - 1st is wiper on, 2nd (when held) is washer on.
Do you think the diesel on the rear is coming from the exhausts, or perhaps leaking from the filler/tank itself, or from the fuel lines/filter which is under the car? Is there a smell of diesel? Cranking for 30 secs without firing hints at possible fuelling issues. Did you buy in last 3 months? Supplying dealer has some obligations under Sale Of Goods Act, so they should be your best bet to fix it in the first instance. Whilst it is under BMW warranty, if they didn't do the crash repair (seems unlikely given the updated rear end), then this may give them a way out depending on what the problem is. Note that the rear end repair is only speculation - but given the cost of the new metal work needed at the back it does seem likely. Good luck with it - it looks great, much prefer the LCI rear end. |

i've had a quick look with a torch pulled all the rear battery cover and floor and everything is mint untouched same for the rear inner sides, it doesn't look like it's had a rear shunt, is the bumper right for the car and the lights wrong or are both wrong? i've also checked the inner wings and engine area every thing looks fine, I did notice a far bit of oil possible the lower left pipe about 4" wide which has spead under the left side, the mist on the back end might be coming from the fuel tank plastic i think with a band around the bottom and it looked like it had diesel under the band, I'm going to have a good look tomorrow to see if their was any major damage or if it was just panels that caused it to be a cat d, the problem is I've got no paperwork and the mot isn't due until september can a normal mot be issued or will i have to get a intensive one?

Mike,
Quite a few bits are different - the rear lights are totally different, as is the rear tailgate - the metal panel itself it totally different on a 58 plate LCI car (which yours has) - you can see on an old car (like mine) how the reversing light shape wouldn't fit on an LCI car. Maybe there is a tank leak - maybe it was damaged and they didn't notice when repairing it. Not the end of the world, but if its dropping diesel you shouldn't drive it (think bike!). You could try and get the problem confirmed, then take it back the supplying dealer and make them fix it (if it is leaking, that's not acceptable under the SOGA, as the car is not of "merchantable quality" etc. or somesuch). You must give the supplying dealer the chance to fix it though - no good taking it elsewhere to actually fix it and then trying to charge the dealer for instance. |

That means they are liable for it. Take it back to the trader BEFORE you go to BMW. The trader is legally obliged to sort it for you under the sale of goods act. |
