RunFlat Winters?!
Hey guys,
Was starting a search for some winters for my 325 (non-premium). There arent many/any posts on here discussing run flat winters for us poor 16"ers. Has anyone started looking or bought any set??? Tirerack has revealed a set or Bridgestone and Pirelli. I really like the new Bridgestone REVO1 but cant find anythign confirming if its runflat. Sites like www.tires.com dont list if a tire is runflat. Also liked the Dunlop M3 everyone with 17+" is looking at but they dont seem to be availble for 16". Also I heard that smaller tires are better in the snow, so wanted to stick to 16". If I get 17" (and should I?) is there any extra work that would need to be done when putting them on? Finally, can anyone recommend what type of winter tires to be looking at for Pittsburgh/Western PA winters??

Nobody with 16" tires getting runflat tires?!!
I only see Blizzak...but it doesnt snow enough in Pittsburgh for that. I wanted Dunlop M3 DSST but they dont sell in a compatible size.... Recommendations?? Should I switch to 17" for winter?

Narrower tyres are definitely better in the snow, and a higher aspect ratio on smaller rims is better protection against potholes and things like that. I'm going 16" with non-runflats, and one of those tyre sealant and compressor kits. Had a set of Dunlop Wintersport M3's on a Mini Cooper S and they dealt with the Detroit winter well so I'll probably go with a set of those.

Hmm...interesting...
for non-flats I was looking at the REVO1 by Bridgestone...new ones...Tirerack gave them an awesome review (they tested on the E90 )...Excellent handling and stuff. With the Road Hazard thing Tirerack offers, and a set of rims...they were coming up to like $900 something.

Ok...so I have sorta narrowed it to tires.
I think I am going to stick with runflat, just cause thats what the e90 was built around...suspension and all. So... Option A 16" Bridgestone Blizzack LM-22 RFT and ASA J3 wheels = $1043 (incl Shipping) Opten B 17" Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST and ASA J3 wheels = $1163 (incl shipping) - $50 rebate = $1113. My current wheels are 16" stock in my 325. So which one do you guys recommend??

I love the LM-22s to death, they got me thru last years winter (I was the only person on the NJ-tpke last year when the lizzard hit lol!!)
But seriosly, the highway was basicly unplowed and my car went into blocks of snow (when I say blocks I mean the snow was up above my hood). I would hit those things at 20mph and obviously couldnt move so I would have to back out and get around it somehow.. it was crazy, but my car which is lowered on coilovers (so its superlow) got thru with those tires, it was amazing. Mine were 16" blizzacks too, so I can't really recommend them enough! Not to say the others are bad, but I can defiantly vouch for these. Also as a side note, for pure snow performance, the smaller the rim the better. |

Hey Mark...that sounds amazingly daring...lol...i would be scared shitless to drive thorugh that much snow....but two quick questions...does the tread wear of fast? and Pittsburgh I would say is not a "pure snow" city...would u still recommend the 16" ?
