Distortion when playing iPod

Alright fellas... my cars CCC was just replaced as iDrive was freezing up very often and rebooting at will... at times taking 10 minutes to be responsive again. SA told me CCC was replaced (apparently thats the unit that controls iDrive and audio?)... Now I'm getting distortion when I crank up playing from iPod. There is no distortion when playing from the CD so I know speakers/amp/sub are fine. I wasnt getting it before CCC was replaced.

SA told me this is the updated CCC (btw what does it stand for?). Here is the interesting part... if I lower the iPod volume to about half and then blast the stereo, I dont get the distortion.... ... but if bothers me if I'm not able to use the stereo to its full capacity. Have they done some crazy update to this CCC?

Sounds like you are using the headphone out on your iPod. The output will distort at higher volumes, especially if you are using EQ. You need to get a cable that connect at the bottom of the iPod to tap the line level output, which is a constant, non-equalized signal. You want to change the system volume with the head unit volume control, and NEVER with the iPod.

Cool I appreciate the suggestion... I'd definitely give it a try. Yes I'm using equilizer (logic 7) and the headphone out of the iPod (my car dont have iPod kit). Interestingly in all the years of ownership it didnt happen until they replaced CCC.

Check the aux in volume level...it may have been reset during the update. Mine is set at 3 I believe. This may have caused you to crank the iPod to higher volume than before. BTW, it is the eq inside the iPod was referring to, as an additional boost in frequencies will cause the headphone output to distort faster.

do you have idrive or non? If non, then it's as simple as pressing the contex sensitive button (radio button) with AUX above it while playing any aux audio.

Where is this AUX volume you guys are talking about? I have an '06 E90, L7, and I think progman 32. It's not really a problem because I don't get distortion and my AUX input is louder than any other source in my car. No distortion. I am however streaming wirelessly over bluetooth. Just curious where it is.

OP, Your iPod volume should be about 2/3 of the way up and check your cable. Make sure it's ok and not torn anywhere. Also, if you know how to, check the actual AUX port. Mine has this annoying ground loop buzz at higher volumes but not noticeable when music is playing. The AUX cable is located near the cigg lighter so the ground loop is not avoidable but you can lessen the effect by moving the cables around.

We have the same problem with logic7 and idrive. I think your ipod has hard drive type ipod like ipod classic. You can try with solid state ipod like ipod touch.

ok so I tried finding the mysterious AUX volume control... had no luck. I'm using iPhone and I have iDrive. Again this all started when new CCC was put in last week. Yea I have ordered a new cable thru ebay... should be getting it in a few days. I doubt its the cable tho... we shall see.
