body marks..

Hi all,

I frequently hear the term 'detail' on here and guess it's a good clean up job of your cars - but what does it entail? my black three-er is covered in light chips and marks and would love to have it as clean as some of the cars on here. What, or should I say 'whom' would I contact to help me with this? I'm from the Newcastle Upon Tyne Area.

I know a good t-cut (or something the like) session would eradicate 80% of the marks - but the rest will require some sort of filling (chip stones). There's one particular chip up along the very edge of the left wing, where it folds from top - down to the side. It looks quite bad !

Can you afford to get the car fully detailed? Theres a few people I know up that way that would hapilly give your car a 2 day session to bring it up, and it will probably end up better than it was in the showroom! Your talking a good £300-400 though for a full correction.

You will get quite a bit out with a good polish and then applying some high grade glaze/wax - but it will never be perfect. Getting a professional detailer on the job will make it "as good as new" or quite possibly better

Will a pro-detailer take care of the chips etc or would you need to get those sorted first by someone else then get it detailed?

No idea on the stone chips. I guess they could be possibly touched up? You'd have to ask the detailer

A good pro detailer will touch up and wet sand chips, I know of a few that do this.

I gave my car a detail a few weeks back, i got too into it and forgot to take lots of pics, but i did do a few...

I used a Kestral DA polisher with various menzerna products.

Detailing generally applies to the removal of light imperfections and scratches.

Repairing stone chips is a little more specialised. therefore expensive.

This was first posted a few years ago but shows what can be achieved.

Thanks guys - I had an even closer look today and the car really needs some TLC. The biggest problem I have is time. The car is in use most days for work - as I'm self employed, I try not to take days off!

So, if I were to do a mini job on the light scratches - what would I need to buy, product and equipment wise - and what method would I need to use? A nice little list would be excellent. ta.
