Destroyed four 193wheels in 6 months. Switch to aftermarket (VMR) ??
OK so I've had my car since November 20, 2009. I've already bent and cracked 4 193 M Sport wheels since then. I'm starting to think these wheels are crappy or just made from a way to soft of an alloy.
The dealership quoted me $2,200 roughly for 2 new wheels and a new tire. For that kind of money i can get a brand new wheel and tire set. I've been eyeing VMR VB3's. How durable are the VMRs have any of you guys hit any sizeable pot holes and lived to tell the tale? do you guys think that 19" VMRs with normal tires will hold up better to pot holes than my stock 193s with run-flats? Also, would the stock TPMS sensors work on the VMRs? i have to make up my mind by monday so please help. any input will be appreciated. ps. here's a picture of my latest victim and a pic of a car Exactly like mine but with the VB3s (hope the guys from VMR don't mind I used their photos)

I don't have VMRs so can't comment on durability etc, but I feel the VMRs would be a great upgrade for you. The car in the pics looks great.

You should see some roads in PA/Jersey/NY.

you probably need to switch to a small diameter wheel, maybe 17s.........switching from 18's to 19's, you are gonna destroy them faster than you destroyed the stock 18 wheels.

Its not possible to avoid that kind of damage by changing to a different brand of wheels. Two suggestions:
Keep your tyre pressures no less than 40PSI, and check them monthly. Consider changing to some 17" rims (Maybe 16" might be more compatible with your roads) |

Getting rid of the runflats is all that you need to do. My brother's 135i with the 18" msport wheels and bridgestone runflats is much more prone to cracking than my 19" m6 reps (which are notoriously weak) with non runflat ps2's. He hit a pothole on the highway and cracked a rim/blew a tire, and I hit the same one later that night and I escaped unharmed.
I would also advise getting the vmr's in 18" if that's possible, and getting a very high quality set of tires. I have no regrets with my ps2's, and I see many aftermarket rim owners with the general uhp's having bends over even moderate potholes, so I advise avoiding those. GL man!
