JB3 PnP or Pin out???

I've decided I'm going to go the JB3 route and now I'm stuck with the dilemma of whether to buy the plug and play or pin out versions. I'd like to consider myself as mechanically inclined but this would be my first modification and I'm still afraid to pop my E92's cherry.

Is the pin out version really $280 more difficult to install? That's a good part of a stage two intake just for a few extra minutes of work.

Has anyone else had any difficulty with the pin out version?

do the PNP, it's more money but if you have to do any uninstall/installs it will go so quickly.

The PnP is def worth the extra money!!! no questions asked. Its alot more easier to install, cleaner, and alot more easier to uninsall.

I would NOT say $280 worth. The pro install was a LOT easier than I expected....took 45 minutes no problem.

The pinout is a great option if you are installing and forgetting about it. If you will betaking it in and out for service etc then it can become a big pain in the ass . The good part is at leapt you have an option of which to get and we also sell the pnp upgrade so you can always turn your pinout into a pnp.

+1, its not worth the headache to re-do the pins everytime you need to take the car in...

Get the PnP....

i installed the pinout in less than an hour, excluding a coffee break and the process of getting to the ecu compartment. if you don't need to remove it frequently i.e. going to the dealer, pinout is just fine ...

This is what it comes down to. I have the pin-out, and the install takes some more focus. Not difficult, it just takes time. For me, not worth 280 U$ more, since I'm out of warranty.

I don't think anybody is saying its hard but I think the point is that it is a pain in the ass when you have to install and remove often.

I've installed hundreds of JB3s and even I find it a pain

pinout takes some extra time and if you're a n00b, easier to mess something up. It is amazing to see how easy a PnP harness makes life though.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm leaning towards the PnP version now. Think I'm going to end up selling my third party extended warranty and spending the extra $3,000 on performance mods as well.

JB3 pnp
Dual cone intake
FMIC
Downpipes
Exhaust

though I doubt I'll be able to get all that for under $3,000.

Does the dealer actually need to access the ECU during routine servicing? I presume if you turn off the tune and clear the codes, they would not have to access the ECU unless it is for software upgrade, etc..

The dealer has no business inside the ECU. I think the only reason they would go inside is if they suspect a tune. All ECU programming/diagnostic reading is done through the OBD port inside the car.

I know this question has been asked a million times probably, but I have to know for sure:

If you remove the JB3 and clear the codes... Can the dealer know that the car was tuned?
