BMW Virgin: From Golf to 330D
Hi Ladies and Gents, just a quick post to introduce myself and say hello.
I've been a VW Golf man all my driving life with various models over the years and my current MkIV was still running like a dream at 10 years old and 130k miles. But at that mileage you're always worried about something major breaking and I wanted something with a bit more room in the boot for Reg the Husky. So this morning I put down a deposit on a June 08 330D Touring (E91 right?) and I cant wait until it's ready for collection - hopefully by next weekend. I was so impressed on the test drive, the engine really is fantastic and being my first diesel I was surprised at how much power was available right throughout the rev range. I'm a mod on uk-mkivs.net and I've seen a couple of usernames from some of the older members who have moved on to BMWs so I'm looking forward to picking your collective brains (don't worry my search skills are good). Anyway spec is: Le Mans Blue 330D Touring Automatic Gearbox Elec Fold Exterior Mirrors M Sport leather steering wheel with gear Media Package - BMW Professional Park Distance Control (PDC). front and r Seat heating. front Visibility Package |

Welcome to the forum!! Good choice, you won't be disapointed. Works well with a dog but watch the rear bumper. It is all painted and will scratch really easy with the dogs paws.claws. Found out the hard way

Welcome. The 330d is a great engine (had it in my E90 'saloon' & the current X3). The wait until pick-up will be a killer though!!!

Welcome,
I use to frequent uk-mkivs too. Had a chipped mkV 2.0gttdi which was a great car but now have a 325d. The straight 6 is a cracking engine. Enjoy. |

Also another great product for the Touring is a Hatchbag, basically a black PVC type liner for all the carpeted surfaces in the boot, protects against animals, any spills etc. Have one of these in the garage if anyone is interested removed from my old Touring a few months back, totally immaculate and a great product. I buy them every time I buy a new car now as they are a perfect tailored fit. Also have one for an X3 if anyone interested. |

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I've got a couple of questions that I forgot to ask the dealer but to be honest he didn't seem particularly clued up. The Pro Media Pack AFAIK includes Pro Nav, bluetooth and voice control. Anything else I've missed? I'm surprised it doesn't include Ipod integration and from what I've read the retro fit Ipod adapter is not all that good. Does anyone know if it includes the USB socket? The Visibility Package includes adaptive xenons, headlamp washers, auto dimming of main beam, again anything else I've missed? |

You get an aux in port in the armrest, and if you are lucky you will have the USB also. You can phone any BMW parts department for the full spec. If that fails there is a number on BMW's website(0906 209 0001) to phone, but its a £1 a minute - cheeky fookers!
I think youve covered it all for the visibility package!

Welcome to the forum - I've been here for a couple of months after switching from a Mk5 GTi. I've also had Mk4's (2) so I would have posted there a few years back. You've chose, what is my opinion, the best all round engine on sale today(well, it is my 3rd one!) Performance, economy and flexibility all taken into account. Of course, I do speak by perspective - it's no 599 GTB - but then that doesn't give you 50mpg sitting at 60 in 6th

Welcome, you will no doubt love the 330D!
I used to own a Mk4 Golf GTI many moons ago. It was my first ever brand new car and was great to own and drive - not a patch on the E91 though.
