I get the dreaded half-enigine light and "engine malfunction reduced power" while on my way to the shore last weekend.
The car is now at the dealer but the check engine light went away. SA said it's either turbos or the hpfp.
Does anyone know how long it takes to replace these???

I got a 2010 535xi loaner to play with for the time being

HPFP is a pretty quick job but they'll still have the car all day. I highly highly doubt it's the turbos... I'm surprised they even said that actually. If it is indeed the turbos, the car will be down for some time.

Yeah, on the phone the SA said "you have to get the car back here immediately, we've been seeing alot of HPFP and turbo problems. Your turbos and/or your hpfp will probably have to be replaced".
I even told him once I restarted the car there were no more problems or check lights but he insisted I bring it in asap and not to "get on it and drive it easy".

I had the same thing happen about 2 months ago and they just replaced a sensor and that seemed to do the trick.

I made it about 200 miles with no other problems and no check lights.

ive had my turbos replaced. if they replace them its a long job since they have to run the diagnoses, do software updates, then BMW has to give them the OK to replace. Then they order the parts from germany (takes 3-4 days to arrive) then another 2 days for install.

I'm still waiting on an update from the dealer. I dropped it off yesterday morning at 9am and haven't heard anything yet

at least i get to have fun in the '10 535

Mine took 3 weeks to replace... But you probably just have a bad HPFP which only takes a day

Update!
My SA called and said it seems to need a software update and that the hpfp and turbos check out ok. The car was reprogrammed yesterday and it should be ready for pickup today. I have a feeling this isn't my last tripi to the dealer.

Can anyone tell me anything about the newest software? What am I in for now? More lag??? I was on 32.x (i think)
