HPFP Procedure FTL and some ?'s>

Well been getting long cranks since around 2K miles, around 3K it got really bad...

Was throwing 2FBF codes mutlitple times, and 2AAF code once the day before i brought it to the dealer.

Brought it to the dealer and they told me they updated my software before they can replace the HPFP, so they did.

>>

DIS Test showed FC 2FBF. Refrerenced SIB 12 55 06
Checked low side fuel pressure and found 5.7 BAR
Then checked vehicle intergration level and found it was below what was specified in SIB.
Programmed complete vehicle including CAS and test drove as PER SIB. Let sit overnight and no longer a long crank when starting.

>>

So my first question is what is the SIB, anyone have a copy?

What version software am i on?

And what is CAS?
My navi looks different and im wondering if they also updated the navi aswell as the DME?

Car started good all day today, will keep it stock until the end of the week to see if i can make it long crank and throw any codes again.

Power seems to be back, def a power loss prior to bringing it in, seems like that power is back.

I'm dealing with the same issue and getting similar treatment so I feel your pain. At 12K miles, car experienced long cranks, rough idles and threw the low fuel pressure codes.

Took the car in Saturday. As of today they've only updated software and claim they can't recreate the symptoms. SA has been reasonable and claims his hands are tied by BMW's "diagonistic tree" procedure. I tend to believe him.

But how this HPFP is not a recall item is beyond me. The way BMW NA is choosing to deal with this is incredibly irritating. I do not want to take the car back with just a software update only to experience the same issues a week later. I'll be very reluctant to drive the car any distance from the shop with its current HPFP.

At this point, I told the SA to keep the car another day to test and see if they can re-create the symptoms. He said if they experience the long cranks, he can move forward and replace the pump.

If anyone else has advice on how to force a HPFP replacement, I'm all ears.

Tough to tell what version you're on, but it may be on your receipt. CAS is the car access system, the ecu that controls door locks and stuff, don't know what the significance is of it in that context.

Navi would have been updated, yes.

Yup... Im good friends with the Service Man and my Service advisor, and they both said they would love to give me a new pump but they are told by bmw to do it this way. As on my E92 they have me a new pump the same day no questions asked.

They both drove my car the night before and the next morning starting it multiple times and it wouldnt long crank, same results with me today, so im going to keep it and wait until it long canks and keep checking with my BT cable to see if i get any codes.

Also they both told me bmw cant get the HPFP right and that i WOULD be back for a HPFP sooner or later and the software update is just a bandaid!!!!!

Slap your tune back on it and beat on it until the pump is fried, clear the codes, remove the tune and try to drive it. Make sure you have the BMW road assistance number.

Just an update here for anyone else dealing with BMW NA's software fix for dealing with the HPFP failure:

As I stated in my reply to '5soko335i', I brought my car in to the dealer with the standard symptoms for a HPFP failure. Dealer was forced to try the software upgrade per BMWNA diagnostic mandate. Car tested within spec. for a "good" HPFP and showed no symptoms at the dealer. Dealer was ready to give me back the car with same dying HPFP, even though the car threw low pressure fuel codes when I initially brought it in. I insisted the shop keep the car and attempt to re-create the long cranks and rough idle. Sure enough, yesterday it acted up again. My SA was very quick to document this and update my PUMA case. Voila - new fuel pump as of today. Also covered under warranty without questions even though I have the Dinan flash.

I guess my advice for anyone else dealing with the new HPFP replacement procedure would be to be to polite but stand your ground and refuse to take the car back until the shop makes a serious attempt to re-create the failure. This tactic will obviously depend on your SA (Rasmussen in Portland has been very reasonable to deal with on this), how long you can afford to be without your car, and the state of your HPFP.

Thanks, wish my dealer was like this, they were able to re-creat the long crank... But after they updated the software, even i myself and them cant get the thing to long crank. I put the JB3 back in and now im waiting to see if the HPFP will die altogether or i can start long cranking again or throw some kind of codes..

Be safe man. Hate to have that thing die in traffic. Even though I was lucky enough to have mine act up at the dealer, BMW should not be leaving you/us at risk like this.
