Any dealings with IDOT or local Muni's for Pothole related Wheel Replacement?
I hit what looked like the grand canyon on RT83 last night and flattened one wheel. I was going 60 or so and had to look back to see that I didnt leave half my car in it, it was aggressive.
My wheel warranty won't touch this as it holds air, but curious if anyone has made claims like this to the state or a village before, and who they contacted. Guessing I should report this to the local Elmhurst police first to get it documented, really not trying to add a carfax entry tho... On another note, any good dealings with any local wheel repair shops? |

Was thinking I had to make a police report to document it, but regardless its a non-issue. The local police sent me directly to IDOT, and IDOT sent me to their claims dept, which is only a voice mail requesting name and address to be sent a form... So its looking like this is gonna be a long snailmail process...
FYI for anyone else... IDOT Claims Voicemail is (847)705-4061 |

It's a very long process, and I've heard it can take up to 6months sometimes. You may have to provide pictures of not only the damage, but perhaps the pothole. You will be asked how many times you take that route, etc, etc.. they safeguard that money like you wouldn't believe, due to the amount of instances that occur just like yours.
I used to work claims, so I know their MO on this stuff. I blew out a tire and chunk of rim last year. After I got the paperwork and replaced the allseason tire (thankfully that one and not a high perf tire) for like $130, I just said forget it - which is what they hope you do as well. Let me know if you have any questions on the process or how to answer something, etc -and best of luck, Tom!

Well I may have to risk my life to get a picture of the hole, but probably should get on that before it's filled. Thanks

Most guys will say Wheels of America. Nothing wrong with that and I have no experience with them. Apparently they do good work.
However, I was talking to the WSTO guys joking about my wheel, and they say they have a guy that they use whose pricing is marginally better. Not only that but that is who they trust, and that is good enough for me. I say contact WSTO. I will be setting up my time soon.

I'm not sure if 83 is considered a state route/highway there, thus maintained by the state or if its a state highway maintained by the City of Elmhurst? ya never know with this kind of stuff.
