again a problem - Misfiring this time Update: same issue 2days after repair
Hi Guys,
getting a bit frustrated at the moment. I really love my 335i but I am starting to loose my trust in the car. In one year this is the 4th time I had to go the dealer for a serious issue. 1. Engine blow at not even 6.000 miles, one year ago (got a complete new engine) -> took 6 to 8 weeks 2. Active steering malfunction at about 17.000 miles (replaced the cable tree) -> 2 days at the dealer 3. Lonk cranks at 20.000 miles (new software) -> 3 days at the dealer And now nr. 4: Misfiring cylinder 6 (they will replace all injectors) -> 2 days at the dealer If I would not have invested so much in the upgrades I would have probably left it there yesterday for good! I even have to pay for the replacement car as the car is over 1 year old I told them I do not find this normal and almost all people in the service area know me by name as I was there so much. They told me that this indeed is not normal but that BMW does not anything to compensate. I am no considering to put some pressure on them to compensate me some how for all the inconvenience caused. Sorry guys, just venting Last edited by marcel b; 06-12-2010 at 05:16 AM.. |

I can understand your frustration, I would be mad as well if I was in your shoes. Crossing fingers that this will be the last issue! (And not a sign of an impending failing HPFP, as I also got a misfire in two cylinders when mine failed).

thanks. I hope that if it goes, it goes soon so I get the new one. I had long cranks some time ago but BMW is now (trying) to solve it with the new software. It worked, no long cranks anymore, but I am afraid they are just delaying the brake down, not preventing it. So now the misfiring... good thing is that they replaced all the injectors. It seems there is a new version and BMW allowed to change all of them if one of the previous versions was installed. (and not only replace the faulty one) I am just woried that I will have a next problem on one of my trips to the Ring which would really be a bummer as the weekend is gone as well in this case. |

I am not running any tune, just the BMW power kit, performance exhaust and a FMIC.
The misfiring was when warm through the whole powerband, sounded terrible. I got the car back today. They replaced all 6 injectors, ingnition coils and spark plugs. Car is running fine now. I expect the fuelpump to follow (the SA agreed to that, although he said he was not allowed to say that out loud) |

Marcel you aren't the only one!!!
In 3 years I went true: -3 times clutch change for rattling: dealer incapable to mount one clutch correctly -6 injectors + 6 coils + plugs changed for misfiring, now the idle is instable, the dealer states it is normal and won't investigate any more because no misfiring code. I suspect that one of the injectors is defective out of the box. But impossible to persuade the dealer to find witch one and replace it. -2 O2 sensors before and after cat -one HPFP -one direction pump -2 turbos for turbo rattle -4 reprogrammations In 3 years I have lost the count of my visits to the dealer, at least 30 Now the dealer BMW KONTZ Luxembourg states that I not any more a desired customer |

god, that is though. It is intererting to see the differences in experience. A friend of mine has a 335i and was never in for anthing except normal service... (in 2 years and 30k miles) I hope this settles a bit and the latest versions of parts are good. It just doesn't give a piece of mind when you have problems all the time. (Especially when planning long trips / holidays) Good luck with yours |

BMW replaced all 6 injectors, coils and plugs and 2 days later I again have misfiring in cyl 6!!! cannot believe this. Same conditions, car was warm and suddenly the car starts shaking under acceleration. Stopped, started again but the issue remained; Trying that several times with some waiting in between at one point it was gone. started driving and the issue came back again when accelerating a bit harder.
I think this is related to the HPFP which they didn't want to change until now. Called the dealer and will bring the car on Monday. Will push for another pump and for compensation. |

Bite the bullet and switch to the M3. You won't regret.
I did this when I had to decide spending another +10k US$ for N54 upgrades ( upgraded turbos, LSD, cooling devices ) or buy a pre-owned M3 ( 1/2 year old, 9000 km at this time ). Never looked back. Eugen |
