Opinions and advice..Brought in 2nd time for Wastegate and Lag
Hey all. Brought my car in the first time for wastegate rattle. According to SIB there was a software upgrade that did initially fix the rattle, but introduced lag. There was a Wastegate conversion option as noted in the SIB (to be done on March '06 to Sept '07 production car..mine is April '07). Service manager told me they reset adaptation and needed to re-adapt (Bulls***!). Gave them benefit of the doubt anyways. Over the course of two months I noticed again slight wastegate rattle that progressively worsened. Brought it in a second time complaining abpout rattle and still laggy. Actuator arms replaced/adjusted according to SIB, and again no wastegate conversion option done. Picked up the car today and man is the lag worse. Turned around and asked to speak with tech. The tech told me there was no option for wastegate conversion and that I had the latest software update. Seems that the car from a standstill now takes over 3k to build full boost/torque, and overall power across the band is less. I brought the SIB in and highlighted the instructions for the wastgate conversion option. He said its no longer an option. I left a message with my advisor again with a complaint (he left for the day). At this point I'm not sure what to do. Not sure how I can prove this to them other than asking them to race me with another 335i.
Also I was curious if a tune would actually fix this at all. Not sure I would want to go JB3. JB+ is more my speed, although I have no idea if it can correct the wastegate being open/partially open at standstill and likely closed/part closed at high RPM. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks. |

The retrofit is still possible. I just had it done this month with positive results. Most tunes will resolve the issue as well as they either take direct control of wastegate duty or utilize offseting to do so.
