Greetings from California,

I'm studying at CUHK this coming fall and I'm in the process of selecting colleges. I was wondering if any of you are or were CUHK students? If so which college would you recommend? I heard United is great because all the buses go there? Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks

its actually not that far, i could go there in 15 mins from tsim sha tsui, suri can do it must faster though,10 mins?

and its an awesome route to drive on especially if you want to go tai po for some food

the transport is actually quite good too, a train station dedicated for the uni, can reach mong kok / elements / tsim sha tsui / festival walk very quickly

also many mini buses to go to mongkok - langham place in 20-25 mins!

15/10 mins to TST? Only if the traffic is light. Usually that's not the case. Especially during rush hour, Waterloo rd, Nanthan rd and Princess Margaret rd is clogged with traffic travelling at snail's pace, not to mention the perpetually congested Hung Hom Cross Harbour Tunnel. You are better off taking the MTR unless you get up real early to drive and avoid the traffic. Besides, it's hard to find a decent parking spot in Mongkok apart from those expensive car parks in the hotels and shopping malls.

Although if you go in the opposite direction, yes, Tai Po Road is quite nice to drive. If you want to test your car's handling, you can go from Tai Po Road to Tolo Highway, head north then exit and turn left to Lam Kam Rd then turn left again to Route Twisk (Tsuen Wan direction), that route twisk is a really good twisty road to test your car's handling, although the road surface is not that great.

I will be in Hong Kong for the semester. From August-December!

I'm just taking random classes at CUHK, I would've applied to HKU if I were serious about my studies lol. The campus is located in Shatin? Am I correct? I heard it takes about an hour to get to Mongkok? Obviously I won't have a car and will be taking public transportation...

Where do people my age hangout (I'm 22, btw)? Also, how often do you guys have car meets in Hong Kong?

oda should be referring "from TST to CU" via the route 8 to Shatin then Tolo (race course section) then up Tai Po Road to CU. Yap, it can be fast.

i think if u ride on the MTR from Mongkok to Shatin it will only take less than 30 minutes...

if your doing business courses, try HKUST, very famous for its business courses...1 of the best in the world! and different uni for different strength depends on which programme you choose, for example, for law, its probably HKU, but business, CU / UST might be better

on where people hangout, it depends on your friends, some party animals do always go clubbing / bars etc, some just do sports or read lol, but the places you normally can go are TST harbour city for malls and knutsford terrace for drink / New century plaza in Shatin for mall, Mongkok langham place for shopping and central - ifc for shopping / lan kwai fong for clubbing!

and we probably have car meets twice a month?

the route 8! i rarely go to lion rock tunnel now unless its late or on times where traffic is light only

almost everywhere, its going to be expensive to park in populated places such as malls / offices, so its the cost you have to take if you want to drive..and HK parking is actually not that expensive comparing the australia and japan!
