Is it possible to request this from my CA?
I want it so they don't drill ANY holes in my front bumper for the liscense plate holder. In NY it's illegal not to have a plate on the front, but I want to put it on without drilling the bumper... can I ask them to do this, or will they throw a fit?

Yes they can. But they make u sign a contract so they aren't liable if u get pulled over for no front plate.

You can ask them not to drill. They dont actually have to drill until the plates come in because until then, youll just have a registration tag in the window.

Make sure u tell them early. A lot of dealers drill into the cars as soon as they are off the truck (like the one i worked for). The only I didn't drill are the ones the Service Manager told the customers requested not to drill.

My tags have arrived at the dealer and I'll try to pick them up today. I asked about whether they required that it be installed by them and their answer was no. I'll just throw the front plate and bracket in the trunk and plead my case or just pay the fine - $55 or $65 in MD - when/if I get caught. Front plates suck!

TELL THEM, you will not take the car if they put holes in the bumper. If they insist that you have a front license plate, have them attach it it the front with jifffy ties. Cut them off when you get home.

I wonder for the states that require a front license plate if you could use something like this that used the tow hook hole to mount it. http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...eIndexID=54810
Not sure how well it would work or even look but can be put on and taken off in a snap. ed

I saw a pretty sweet license plate holder on a civic (no joke). You would press a button on the dash, and the LP would slide out from under the bumper, and then flip up exactly where the license plate is supposed to be.

Thing that sucks w/ those is that the officer can still pull u over. The plate has to be in the middle legally. But I guess the chance of them pulling u over will be a lot less.
Plus most officers won't pull u over only for not having a plate or having tints. It is usually tacked on to another bigger ticket like speeding or reckless driving. |

Something like this. There are different styles. This one flips down. There's another one that slides out, and then flips up. Depends on how much room is in the bumper. Video: http://members.cox.net/racecop/IMAG0054.AVI |
