Headlight Washer Jets.....Wont Retract

Can anybody advise on a quick fix for my headlight washers jets. They work fine, they just wont retract......well they try to very slowly and I end up just pushing them back into the bumper housing. Is this common and is it easy to fix?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you mistakenly put any "blue pills" in the washer tank?

What is the air temp there at the moment? If it's cold out and you don't have adequate additive in your washer fluid they could have frozen open. This happened to me last winter. I usually dilute the additive with water in the summer and never used it up before winter set in, and so on first use on a cold day they stuck open. If this is your issue they will drop down once they warm up again...

Owned the car from new and bumper has never been off. Perhaps a shot of maintenance spray on the mechanism might help them retract?

It hasn't been cold enough to freeze. They work, they just wont drop down without some gentle assistance.

There is a known problem of faulty headlight wash arms seizing and not retracting fully. They should be replaced under warranty with a new modified part. Get in touch with your dealer.

and if out of warranty, a good dosage of WD40 to the mechanism might be a good idea.

Come to think of it, better had check mine and grease them up!

One of mine had the same problem a few weeks ago and the dealer just swapped it under warranty. Whilst it was in though they checked the other side and observed that this too was on it's way so swapped that one too.

They told me this is something they have seen a few times so keep these things in stock.

I dare not imagine what the cost would be outside of warranty.

Dave, I have stayed quiet on your many previous 'quotes'.....

God man, do you have a twitch?

OP: as Tone says, its a warranry issue, my sticky foam-ejectors were replaced FOC on the 06 330i.

Maybe a bit of Daves special 'multi-lube' would have fixed them out of warranty??

My E93 vert used to do exactly the same - a phone call to the dealer will result in two new washers being ordered and then a booking to get them fitted.

.....or a whole day off work (£100's) for them to say "please book in another day" costing another day off (£100's) while they do a piss poor simple job that should take 30 minutes in total.

Even if you told them the whole car had exploded into flames and was reduced to a small pot of ashes they would stil ask you to book it in for an inspection (£75/30mins) so they could check the problems and weigh the ashes to check it complied with warranty ashes regulations....

jumbo numpties.....

Same here. Dealership says the car was hit (not true) and therefore not covered under warranty. But as the bumper was painted, they decline their responsibility.
