Tyre bulge
Hi guys
Have got a bit of a bulge in my drivers' side front tyre (18" Bridgestone run flats). Its about the size of a two pound coins and sticks out about the thickness of a pound coin. I take it this tyre now needs replacing asap? (annoying as there is still a reasonable amount of tread left). If I take it to a stealer (or any garage in fact) will they replace just that one or will they insist on replacing the other front one too (due to uneven treads etc - not really sure, my tyre knowledge is next to zero!). Any advice/info appreciated.

Take it straight into a tyre place and get it replaced, you are risking not only your life but any one else that you may hit, when that lets go! If the other tyre on the axle is within tolerance it wont need replacing. It's all to do with the electronics that manages the traction control

As an example, Porsche recommend no more than 30% tyre wear differential on the same axle on their higher performance range. |

The others are right, if there is a bulge it will need replacing. Normally this means the tyre has hit a pot hole or something hard to make it deform and the alignment may be out as well.

Went to tyre place near office today to replace my rear tyres (original Bridgestone 17" runflats - done 25,000 miles) which were near but not at the legal limit. When taking the first off the fitter pointed out that it had cracks/splits in the centre of the tread 1/4" wide down to the steel bands.
I have always thought these Bridgestones poor, but that was positively dangerous. The other was OK, though also worn to about 1 mil from legal limit Replaced by (runflat) Michelins. I put these on the front a few months ago and have found them a huge improvement on the Bridgestones.
