about to buy, deal or no deal?

Been working on prices with the dealer and pretty much came down to this
it is a
2007 e92 6MT CPO 335i, 29K miles
- premium package
- sport package
- parking sensors
- cold weather

listing was about 36K and we brought it down to 33K so far. I know we can do better but how much better I am not really too sure. I know the galves price is far lower but how does this apply to lease returns? I live in the southern california region.

thanks for any input.

also this is kind of extra but it DOES have an oil cooler (it was bought in May of 07 so i assume it was produced around January.)

The wholesale value of a car applies to trade-ins, lease returns, fleet vehicles, etc. That's what the car is worth at auction (the car's residual value is meaningless). You should pay no more than the Galves "Market Ready" value + $2,000 (estimate) for CPO + 5% to 10% for dealer overhead & profit.

The dealer is CRAZY if he expects to get $33,000 for that car. IMO, a fair deal would be under $30,000...

what dealership are you looking at? the list price is way too high on that, but what i've found is depending on what the dealership is buying them at and putting in they can hold out a long time with CPOs to get the price they want.

Exactly! If the dealer paid more than book price @ the auction, then he does not care what your 'galves' price is. Prime example: I have an independent dealer searching for my car, he was outbid at an auction and the car I wanted sold for 4k over book price. Bottomline, the dealer knows 6spds fully loaded are rare finds, they will sell them accordingly.

BTW, where is this car you're looking at? If u don't want it and it's the color combo I want, I'll take it. Flame me if u want for 'overpaying'....at least I would have found the car I finally want and won't be waiting for my lucky stars to get a 'killer deal'.

OP is in SoCal not in Chicago. He can do a lot better on the price.

First of all, the E9x 335i isn’t a limited production automobile that rarely comes up at auction; it’s a car that’s still being mass-produced on assembly lines in Germany (since 2007). There are also many used ones coming off 3-year leases in 2010.

While it’s true that the vast majority of 3-Series BMWs being sold these days have all-wheel-drive and/or slushboxes, there’s still an ample supply of rear-wheel-drive E92 335i’s with 6MT and ZSP out there to choose from (it’s the E90s that seem much harder to find in this configuration).

Savvy, patient consumers who know the value of what they’re buying can usually find good deals; while impulsive, self-indulgent consumers tend not to. This applies to just about every consumer product, not just cars.

Garage List
I literally just bought my CPO e92 335i 6spd 5 weeks ago and paid $29k. The dealer was originally as $31.5k. Options: Premium/Sport/Cold Weather/Sirius. 41k Miles. It also has the oil cooler. Two new rear tires were put on to meet CPO req's.

$33k is mind blowing expensive and outrageous. That's what the dealerships in MI wanted for the same optioned e92's, $32-$35. I laughed at one sales adviser when he told me the best he could do was $500 off. 2 years ago they knocked of $3k on my fiances 325xi CPO no sweat. So I started using BMWNA CPO search and found the car in Madison, WI. Flew out and drove it back. You might be able to do the same, widen your search area, you are bound to get a better deal.

We can argue back and forth on this...Never said it was a limited production automobile. There are more E90s available than E92s (about twice as many on cars.com) I've been looking...autotrader, cars.com, ebay, craigslist, etc...Your theory is correct and obvious-dont pay too much for a car...unfortunately the market doesn't reflect that. Check autotrader, cars.com, ive been on there daily. Call up every single one of those sellers and tell them their price is too high.

BTW, self-indulged? Whats wrong with finding the vehicle I want and not comprimising? 30K is alot to spend for me, sorry I want to make sure I get what I want. COUPE, manual, prem, sport, nav, heated seats, black exterior, saddle interior...good luck trying to find that, its harder and more rare than you think.

I agree with everyone on here. It sounds like it is too much. If the dealer wants to make the sale, he will, if not, walk. The phone is the most powerful tool in this business, as long as you know the spec's of car you are looking for, call around and find a dealer that that is hungry and wants to move units. CPO are a bit more tricky because you don't know what the dealer paid for it, but still, the market is the market, and if you live in So. Cal, you have 7-10 dealers within driving distance.
