Space btn caliper & rim ?
Does anyone know or have an idea on the minimum acceptable space between the calipers and the rim ? Mostly for the front of course.
I am asking because I tried my old wheels, the one I had on my E46, and they do fit. They are 17" and the offset is correct at +42. However, I am left with approx. 2-3 mm of space between the inside rim and the calipers. I guess it should be fine, but thought I'd ask anyway just to make sure. If it works, I'm gonna save like 2 k $ (the tires are almost new). E90Fleet, maybe you have an idea on that ?

I would say it should be OK as long as there is no grinding. Take a test drive to see if any grinding sign. Another alternative to is grind the caliper just a little to clear the rim. I did this often to accomendate a bigger brake caliper in other vehicle. HTH.

Are you saying the E46 wheels don't fit because of the 2-4mm of space beween the caliper and wheel ?
To be honest, it always scares me to see the caliper that close to the wheel, but I have seen plenty of cars wth very very very little space (2-4mm) between the caliper and wheels, so I think you can do it, it just scares me for some reason (no science behind that fear, since the caliper isn't going to move, and if it does you have a bigger problem on your hands then the wheel to caliper distance). |
