Experience with w810i . . .

Well, after much debate and info from this forum, I purchased a w810i and have been using it with my 325xi for almost a month now. So far, here are my experiences and thoughts.

1. Initial pairing was easy and quick. 325xi paired well and recognized the w810 quickly. No problems whatsoever. After pairing, the car and phone recognize each other upon entry, and so far every entry.

2. The phonebook easily transfers all my data into the 325xi and so far, nothing seems to be omitted.

3. If I'm on the phone before entering the car, I can easily transfer the call to the car without pause in the conversation. And if I'm on a conversation in the car, it easily transfers to the phone without interruption.

4. The signal strength displayed on the car does change as I move around town.

5. My one issue is this. If I try to call via the car immediately after the car is started, the call will not be transfered to the car's speakers. Instead the sound will be sent through the phone's speaker. The iDrive displays that the call has been initiated and connected, but no sound from the car. I have to manually transfer the call back to the car from the phone. However, this only happens if I try to initiate the cal from the car immediately after the phone has been linked up. If it's been about 10 minutes or so, I can initiate the call from the car and the sound will be piped through the car's system.

Just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has a solution or similar issues.

Thanks

I have continued to find the W810i to be inconsistent and not fully compatible, including what you cited as a problem.

I have (according to the phone) the latest firmware and the signal strength does not change.

What version Progman does your car have? I have 24.0.2.

I believe the only issue you are having seems to be pretty standard. At least i know i have had that problem with ALL the phones i have tried. I just always try to remember to wait 1 minute before dialing.

Just to clarify, having paired and connected over 20 phones one day last week, a compatible phone SHOULD work immediately upon reconnection.

Most of the mobiles I tested had no problem with this.

JSpira-

i'm not sure what ProgMan I have. How do you find that out? On a side note, I've been meaning to ask, what is the ProgMan? Is it just the software update verisons of the car?

Thanks again.

I just got a W810i recently and updated it to the latest firmware. Compared to the Motorola V3, the signal strength indicator does not change... which is a bummer for me...

But I do like the phone a lot.

Beware. The W810i works great - until one day it decides not to work for a week or so. Then it will work again.

Now with more experience with my w810, i have to agree with JSpira. He warned me before I purchased it, and I was well aware of the issues.

The phone does not always work "flawlessly" with the e90. Yes, in the beginning, calls initiated from the car would transfer sound to the car speakers. However, there have been several times when the calls initiated from the car will transfer to the phone's speaker and I've had to manually transfer the call back to the car.

It is an annoyance, considering my last phone was the Motorola E815, which handled the e90 and worked "flawlessly" about 99% of the time. Keep in mind, I used that phone on a daily basis for a year with my 325xi with only 1 time I can remember when the phone and car didn't sync.

That being said, I like the w810i a lot. I debated for a long time about getting it. I understood what JSpira had told me and I was willing to sacrifice some ease of use in the car as the phone itself provided better use for me outside of the car.

Just my two cents. I do have to say, I wish that the Bluetooth system worked well with all "Bluetooth" phones. But with no enforcing agency for Bluetooth, it's hard to insure that Bluetooth devices will be 100% compatible.

Just curious, and a bit off topic, will other bluetooth profiles be supported in future ProgMan updates/future cars? It would be great to have A2DP supported on the car, then you could have a Bluetooth MP3 player stream CD-quality sound to the sound system without all these MP3-specific cables (a.k.a. iPod MOST interface).

Sorry to learn of your problem but thanks for acknowledging what I said.

Regarding additional Bluetooth profiles, this is a hardware issue and will not be supported in Progman updates.
