I think we need to get some of the guys from the states to shine into this as they probably have more experience with radar detectors then we do.
There is only a few states that radar detectors are illegal.

You might consider this idea

Here is my solution to the problem. There are a lot of old junk radar detectors lying around doing nothing that are virtually useless and not worth anything. If you can't find one that someone is will to give you , I think you could probably pick up one for a few bucks, it doesn't even matter if it actually works. But put it in your car and make it accessible so that if you do get stopped, you can quickly swap it for you new good detector. If the police confiscate it, No Big Deal. I do this with my old POS detector when I travel through VA where they actually have radar detector detectors.

That's great I would have never though of that. Do you by any chance know if there is a radar detector that can avoid being detected. The only problem with that here is that we get a nice fine for having the radar detector.

Any ideas? what ever the price is as long as the radar detector detectors can not find it

i dont see the point...try not to speed when you are the only vehicle on the road...dont speed over-excessively...cause you know that there will always be new detectors to detect the detectors that are supposedly undetectable...unless you dont mind getting stiffed with a fairly hefty fine and always having to purchase a new radar dectector dectector

Sorry, but I personally don't know of an undetectable radar detector. There actually could be some, but I don't have that info.

I did consider this in the past. It is a pretty good idea.

Back when I had a radar detector I liked to speed the most when I was the only one on the road because there was nobody getting scared by my driving. In traffic I pretty much always behave well because the other drivers are too unpredictable.

I did a search and all sources stated that radar detectors are legal in BC. However I found one site that seems to tell that they are strictly illegal in Vancouver. Below is a quote from the sitewith a link to it:

Quote:
http://www.cityguide.travel-guides.c...Vancouver.html...Radar detection devices are strictly prohibited and may not be carried in automobiles.
I tried to find other source unsuccessfully. Maybe someone else knows this for sure?

Another interesting find about the radar detectors. Apparently Beltronics STi is invisible to Spectre I, II & III.

Anyone in Ontario have this unit?

"It should be noted that since this story was published, Beltronics has developed the first radar detector that can beat the Spectre radar detector, the Beltronics STi"

It's crazy you're not allowed to have a detector out east

I currently have an 8500 X50 and it works great. The blue LEDs are much easier on the eyes than the red version.

I would have probably went for the V1, but I got a smokin' deal on this one so I couldn't justify the extra cash. The aarows would be nice though!

As with any detector, you should understand how laser (LIDAR) and RADAR work so your expectations of the detector aren't unrealistic. Go to the V1 website and go through the exercise of how laser and radar work. That way you can better protect yourself when you're on the highway. It still doesn't give you a license to speed, but your chances of getting nailed are reduced significantly.

They are legal in BC. Altho...if you do get caught...and the cop sees you are using one (unsuccessfully) highly probable he won't give you just a warning.

"In Canada, the only three provinces that allow their use are Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan."

http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...ector-laws.asp

"Do you ship radar detectors outside the United States?
Puerto Rico and the Canadian provinces Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan are the only places we ship to outside of the United States, but we do not accept those orders online due to special shipping considerations. If you require shipment to any of those four locations, please call us at 800-433-3487 to place your order."

I've contacted radar busters and they will ship to other provinces and have done so in the past without any issues. They just mark the package as "microwave transmitters". The only undetectable radar is the belltronics STI and this is the one I decided to order.

I got a Whistler remote radar detector from Costco of all places for $145 and it works great! I have a friend with e46 m3 and it has saved him quite a few times . . . .

That new Escort 9500i (with GPS to reduce false alarms) looks intriguing. Seems that people haven't decided which is best...the Escort 9500i or the Valentine V1.

My previous experience with detectors taught me to stick with a decent quality one...don't bother with the cheap ones. Too many false alarms that it gets annoying and then you stop listening to it...
