3rd half-engine light in 3 months

6:00am this morning driving around 45mph the reduced power, 1/2 engine light appears....again....
I haven't even put on 500 miles since my last 1/2 engine light
The 1st time the dealer said it was a "sensor" The next time it needed a software update... and now what???? Do I finally get a new HPFP???? or do I have to put up with this bullshit until I sell this thing?

Does the new 335 have these problems? How about the New Z435i?

This is just getting a little absurd already

would be great if you could check what codes you are getting. i would go to a good mechanic shop able to read codes and check them out . if it is the pump just get them to replace it and forget about the dealership.

+1 - What does your Dinan dealer think about it? Can you bring the car by their place to find out what the codes are?

My Dinan dealer is same as bmw dealer. They say it's not related at all and are seeing a TON of these problems. They can't get me in until MONDAY! And Apparently they are still replacing bad hpfp's with "new" bad hpfp's? wtf is that???

The codes on my work order last time(2nd time in) were "30ff and 2A22, not related", 2A22 not present- ignore" ---Any clue what this means???

Not sure what codes were thrown the 1st time.

Not a fan and don't trust the dealer service/maintenance shops.

If you plan to keep the car a while, get a Bavarian Technique tool and see the codes first hand for about $300. Then buy the Bentley manual for $82 of Amazon.

Sounds like you are frustrated, but I would be extremely frustrated dealing with the dealer service department. I feel most of them are full of it! There are some great BMW techs out there, but the service department is run as a huge profit center. Customers come last IMHO.

30ff is an underboost code.

Who knows if those are really the only codes, maybe you had a 2aaf (fuel pump)? There is another thread where someone had the 2a22 with the 2aaf.

2a22 - has something to do with a reservoir fill. Interesting that another Dinan tuned car kept getting that 2a22 code: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showth...highlight=2a22

30ff - Terry has said, "30FF = boost leak or wastegate issue. Also possible vacuum line issue around boost solenoids or DV."

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showth...highlight=30ff

You could have a small boost leak in the system.

Thanks. I thought the same thing but the SA told me EVERYTHING else checked out OK. checked vac lines to actuators, pop off valves, exh flap, checked vac at wastegastes. "NO leaks found", etc...- not like i believe anything they say anyway.
It also says "found older software installed, refer to sib 12-28-07"

I'm going to start looking for a new ride. I can't be driving a $50k car that is less reliable than my $10k jeep wrangler... especially when NOONE at BMW knows their ass from their elbow it seems.

Were you getting 1/2 engine lights and enigine malfunctions???
This is really bizarre... the light is off now and hasn't gone back on yet and car is driving normal.
It may be time to take a look at the S5

Check this out. Guy had wastegate + turbo issues. Ask your dealer to check them out. Maybe print out this post:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=30ff

They probably don't like doing the procedure due to the labor to get them out and do the measurements.

I just went for another drive and within 8 miles I got it again. This time it said "reduced engine power, safe to drive".

I turned it off and back on and it was gone. Drove about 15 miles more and nothing...everything is ok again!

Car has been in since monday with the same exact codes as last time which was less than 500 miles ago. I'm not sure how long it will be in this time but I don't anticipate getting it back until next week at the soonest... then I will probably sell it. I don't have time for this BS anymore. This is my 6th BMW and by far the one with the most problems. I can't have a $50k car that is less reliable than my '05 jeep wrangler.

What's the longest your cars have been in service for????
