So after thinking about it for a very long time I think I will end up going for the 335i msport instead of the 325i msport . After considering things like how far i drive per year [3k miles~] and insurance costs [over 2k] / cost of the car initially [26k] I think it will be the better option.

Generally speaking, how much is servicing & how often do you need to get it serviced. Does this change if you do more town driving, is it smart enough to detect that?

I have seen some threads on MPG for the 335i and round town it doesnt look too great but motorway isnt too bad. If you are driving say 60 on the motorway and in 6th gear what MPG do you get, also round town at 30 mph in 5th? Not sure how restrictive an automatic gearbox is either, would it even let you go into 5th at 30 or would it want to shift down due to lower rpm?

I have a long way to go yet before purchasing as I am doing it without any finance, I should be looking to buy around march next year [as thats when i have 1 year no claims also]. Also if they are around 26k now for m sport 335i anybody know what sort of price they might be by march next year? I dont think they will drop that much but I may be wrong.

I know somebody who works for BMW so I hope I wont have any issues test driving a 335i as I am 24, not sure how strict they can be with age?

Last question of all, has anybody here fitted the JB3, seems quite a good mod to have just for the smoothness of power devliery than anything else from what iv been told.

If you are doing 3k miles a year, you wont be spending much time doing 60 on the mway! But it would return 35+mpg.

My insurance last year was 600 (I was 26). JB3 is good and turns it from a quick car into a fast car.

If you're only doing 3k a year I wouldn't worry about consumption too much, I used to get 32 mpg on the motorway before the latest software update, now its about 30, but I do have the 7 speed DCT box though,which adds a bit..

Serviceing is ever 20k, but it can shorten if you rag your car everwhere

There's a lot on JB3's over on the US section, Evolve offer a good upgrade also.

I'm looking at getting one of these JB3 numbers, but not sure where you would get them from. I know you can get them from their website, but surly there must be a UK distributor

not sure about uk vendor, i think burger motorsports charge like $70 for shipping as well

I think the mpg quoted above is unrealistic to be honest (no offence). Creepy's car certainly is far newer than your budget would suggest you'll be buying and therefore full of Efficient Dynamics trickery. I owned a '56' plate manual 335i and, take this as a worse case, I returned an average of 19mpg (I hoon it everywhere and hardly went on motorways). As has been mentioned if you're only doing 3,000 miles per year then it shouldn't even figure in your head.

I agree. My car currently averages a slightly depressing 24mpg. My 330i did 28mpg.

The extra gear on the DCT seems to make a big difference on motorways.

Thinking about it those mpg's are acheivable on the motorway which is what the OP asked in fairness (as opposed to average!). Still at that sort of mileage it shouldnt really be debated. insurance must the the biggest cost behind buying the car.

The only reason I wanted to make sure the car's mpg isnt too ridiculas is i do short miles day to day but occationally quite long trips, so i dont care about MPG generally but if I decide to go on a long trip and I am constantly re-fuelling then it isnt so great. I think from the comments though this isn't an issue

A lot of people told me that when I said I was learning to drive in a GTI I know my limits and greatly respect power. I think the more power you have, more often than not, the more careful you are, especially on a car that costs 8x more money than what I have now.

The thinking and theory behind that is quite reasonable and logical, however, in practice it goes out the window especially when you are young. I was 24 when i got my 335i, only passed my test 2 years prior to getting it.

I thought the same way as you, no way I am going to risk doing anything stupid to what was only my second car. Once you get it, especially being young and inexperienced in terms of driving different cars and on the road exeperience, the power delivery of the 335i is so addictive you just want more and more when it's in full flow, just feel like wanting to push it to it's limits all the time. Few weeks into having it i mapped it and now i'm returing about 18.6mpg.

I imported a JB3 from US, took a week and most of that was waiting on Parcel Force to sort out the customs bit.

I have 6sp manual and at 60mph I will easily see 35mpg in cruise.
At 80 I would guess that's down to about 28mpg.
In town/combined I easily average 23mpg with a fair bit of 'point and shoot'.

Dont worry about the 400bhp RWD jump, this car is a total pussycat.
The electronics wont let you do anything stupid.
