My dealer said 0W 30 so that's what I use. It was quite chilly a while back...

Hi Ciao, For your diesel you need an oil that meets the requirements of 'BMW Long Life 04' - I would recommend Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 0W-30 which is approved and is what I have been running in mine. The 0W-30 viscosity is now discontinued by Castrol but Opie Oils still have some: http://www.opieoils.co.uk If you can't obtain that then go for the replacement - Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40 http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=7027069 HTH

Hi,
I am new to this forum, having acquired my E92 335d just last April. Last month I took the car to my local BMW agent for an oil + filter change. They put in AGIP SINT EVOLUTION. Can someone confirm whether this oil is LL04 campatible or not? Thanks in advance for your assistance! |

From what I can see on Agip's website, there are two versions of their Sint Evolution engine oil - the normal Sint Evolution for Petrol engines and Sint Turbodiesel Evolution. According to the Agip data sheets, neither of these oils is approved to BMW LL04. The Sint Evolution for Petrol cars is only LL01 and Sint Turbodiesel Evo' doesn't have BMW approval at all. Agip has an oil that is approved to LL04 and that is their Formula MS B04, which has a 5W-30 viscosity index and should be fine for your 335d. As far as I am aware LL04 oils have been developed to be low emission, so as not to damage the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that is now fitted to diesel BMWs, so perhaps it would be best to check why they have put the Sint Evo' oil in your car.... Here is the link to the Agip site: http://www.agip.eni.it/agip/internal...ionId=24064572 Personally, I would still recommend using Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel (5W-40) if this is available in Malta. Castrol have a long history of working with BMW and this product was specifically developed with LL04 approval in mind. HTH

Will,
as far as I'm aware, Flora 0W-30 doesn't have LL04 approval and is only suitable for low speed installations with limited shear ..........
