Anybody tried 245 tire in front with 8.5 rim / +40 offset ?

Hi,

I am torn between choosing 245 or 235 tires for the front. 245 will look better on the outside since I have a conservative +40 offset. I am sure the outside will not rub, but I am worried about the inner strut rubbing. Anyone has experience with this setup in front ? (8.5in width, +40 offset, 245 tire).

PS: Car is an e90 LCI 335i. Below is a picture of the current strut clearance (OEM rim, +34 offset, 8in width). The new rim will extend 12mm towards the strut...

Using the Tire calculator on the top of the page

New wheel et 40
Old wheel et34

6mm LESS clearance on the strut side, and the outside edge of the wheel will RETRACT 6mm

No, because the ET40 wheel is 8.5" wide, and the ET34 wheel is 8" wide.

I'm running that exact setup. Enkei RPF1's ET40 and 8.5 inch rim width. Along with 245/40/18's with Nitto NT05's all around. I run a 3mm spacer up front and they clear my KWV1's without issue. Granted, I am an E92 so not sure if that will make a large difference.

Thanks everyone. I think I will be going with 235 front/265 rear, and put some spacers in front later on for a better look. It's just safer.

I have 8.5x18 et37 up front with 245/40/18 conti extreme contact DW on my e90 xi. They work well with no rubbing. I am pretty sure that the 245 will work well with the et40 as well. I have at least 5mm of space on the strut side. Probably more like 10mm.

If this helps, here I have 8,5-20 Et 40. 245/30-20, and Bilstein B14 Adjustable shocks and it worked fine.

Depending on what suspension each person is running, 8.5 +40 with a 245 may or may not have rubbing issues towards the inside.

The shock position, diameter, spring width/diameter will play a large roll in these fitments. Sometimes a 3-5mm spacer may be needed.

Well, in the end I chose 235 and I am very glad I did because the car looks great (see my VB3 link on my signature). 245 would have increased the wheel diameter too much and it would only let 1-2mm strut clearance. Too little for my liking.

Im glad the 235's worked out for the best. The cars stance is perfect.
