Bluefin Remap

Just bought the Bluefin remap for my car a week ago - pretty easy to upload after a laptop software upgrade from their website - suddenly the 3.0 litre diesel engine makes sense - flexible, responsive, torquey, Jesus its a damned quick car with effortless overtaking ability and power everywhere - I absolutely love it now - for back lane scratching it gives grunt out of slow speed bends and shoves you to hilarious speeds with zero fuss and in the wet has the traction light flickering at 60 in fourth. I have ridden sportsbikes for years and this thing now give a little glimpse of the effortless high speed stomp of a bike (talking relatively of course). If you've got an E90 325D with the 3.0d just do it for Gods sake - its what the engine was designed to be and though its hard to say due to me hammering the thing for a week, I reckon it might even be better on fuel.thats what I look like when I drive it now.

Yeah, it's superchips.

I've heard very little about them on here, although they seem to be very popular with other cars such as the Focus ST.

I'd be interested to know how this map performs on the 330d.

I've had mine bluefinned now for over a year and done 40K miles or so on it with no problems.
At the time it was cheaper than the evolve switch and that was in early days which is some of the reasons why I went down that route.

Banzibarn I'm not sure they do one for your LCI model. I know P-torque can map them though.

If I had the cash to do so as an experiment I wouldn't mind trying different companies maps to see which I prefer, eg P-torque, Evolve, E-maps etc.

Bluefin handset was £445.00. I spoke to them first to understand how it worked and what their warranty claims were like - obviously nobody tells the truth about that one but I was a little more confident. Please to hear that somebody has done 40k with no probs. The car still has the stutter around 1,700rpm which is probably down to the EGR motor lag but its a really progressive curve with no dips - mirrors the 330D curve almost.

Do they do the bluefin remap for a 2009 LCI 325d?

Not really.... their website only says they do 2007 models onwards. It doesnt say anywhere that they can also do the LCI's.

Looks like a call or email to them will be my friend!!

i was chatting to one of the techs at barons in farnborough the other week..

he was saying that one of the other guys in the garage has a bluefin on his 123 and throws errors all over the place.. i would avoid them.

we agreed that evolve and their like are a better solution..

So why is the Evolve better than the Bluefin ?

Having dealt with and used Bluefin over many many years I have always found their support excellent.

If the guy above has run it for over 40k miles and no errors I don't see how it could be full of errors.

I ask because I have just got my 325d and was looking to re-use the bluefin and wondered if there was a better option and why

he says he has had no problems, not that it hasn't thrown any errors.. i'm talking about the errors that the techs see when they hook the car up to the computer. equally, he may also have had no errors!

i dunno.. my evidence is purely anecdotal.. take it as you will

No problem and no errors.

The car has been seviced twice since and nothing has been said ie no fault codes.

The bluefin will also read fault codes too but I prefer not to mess. I just plugged and played and then have left well alone.

By the way I'm not saying bluefin is better just passing on my experience with it.

I had a bluefin remap for my Golf, never had any problems with it despite dealer servicing on that. Due to the amount of scaremongering on forums I called them before getting the device switched across to my BMW. I was assured that the device cancels all the normal faultcodes generated by remapping (ECU, Gearbox etc). There may be random residual fault codes on optional extra equipment, but nothing that can be atributed to a remap and nothing that will light up any warning lamps.

With that reassurance I have 'bluefined' my pre LCI 330D and it has made a huge difference, smooth power delivery - just alot more of it.

Superchips customer service is very good, they will even tailor your map to your requirements and send it thorugh to your bluefin!

They also do a money back guarantee, so what's to lose!

hi,

if you have the 194hp model it's no problem (LCI and previous engine is the same). If you have the new 325d engine (which was launched in March this year) they do not have a tune yet.
