Burning Smell While braking

Hi all,

Yesterday I noticed something that when I break slightly harder the car cabin was filled with burning smell. Is it normal or something is going wrong?

Thanks,

Shah

Mine did same, but oil burning smell.
Does it smell like oil burn smell?
Mine did while heating was on, turned out it was rocker cover gasket leaking oil from back side of engine.
What engine on your car?

Thanks guys,

ghosty - If the brakes are below limit will this happen? Onboard computer says 9000 miles for the brakes but will get it checked out.

Bakili - I don't think it is the oil burning as it only came when I braked hard yesterday. But when check if there are any leaks for peace of mind.

i was just thinking if you had barely any pads left, that might cause a burning smell when braking hard?

Depends what speed you were breaking from.. Coming down from 170mph I've had that too :-)

That is very possible. I will get the pads checked asap.

Well I was not driving at 170mph . I think I might be doing like 40-50mph.

I've smelt something too....however, it was after a serious hardcore braking ...all wheels locked...and smokin tyres etc....Quite happy with the BMW brakes....

go to a local indy...

Yes I am happy with the brakes but I did not brake that hard. I am thinking it could may well be the filter for the aircon.
