55F over ambient is not good at all. I have personally tested 3 intercoolers and never seen one go that far over ambient.

Please do not throw the kitchen sink at me now guys.

IAT over ambient is irrelevant since he started 25 degrees over ambient with his starting IAT, so obviously he had been pushing the car already before he started the log. Over a 3 gear pull the car only gained 30 degrees in IAT which is very similar results to your AA intercooler testing!!!

In order to compare apples to apples, you have to compare starting IAT to ending IAT, since a car which is already hot and well over ambient is completely different to a car which has been cooled down to ambient.

This is going to turn into a horrible debate. We posted all the info on our website for our customers to see.

http://www.extremeturbosystems.com/p...duct_info.html

The customer in the link you posted, did start with temps above ambient, so you can't really say he climbed 50 deg, when in fact he was already 25 deg above ambient on the start of the pull. We have sold 100's of these intercoolers now and haven't had any reports of high intake air temps. 20 degree's above ambient is not out of the ordinary.

I admit, I don't have the slightest idea how to compare the numbers, but in case it helps anyone, the highest IAT I've seen in my car with Dinan CAI and cp-e FMIC was 128F when the outside temperature was 102. Yesterday morning on my way to work, it was around 77F when the outside temp was 75 and oil temp was 240 and water was 202.

No you are completely wrong. The ambient temperature is what drives the heat exchange between the hot air coming out of the turbos and the air exiting. Ambient is the critical point of measure and the reference item when looking at IAT rise. I have started with hot IATs before a run and they drop like a rock (before rising) as the heat exchange begins. The bottom line is beginning IAT is irrelevent unless you have a massively heat soaked intercooler.

In the example you referred to that I wrote, even after two hard long gear pulls the IATs ended within 2F of each other. They were 34F over ambient. The ETS is coming in at 55F over ambient on one run and that is just simply not good. I am not trying to come off as difficult, just simply stating facts.

I have more logs if you want them. I have done testing on multiple intercoolers. If 55F over ambient is acceptable to you, then more power to you. I am simply stating every single other intercooler I tested produced considerably less IAT rise than 55F over ambient.

Actually your facts are wrong, starting temp has a huge role on the end result.

On 2nd to through the top of 4th gear? That is simply not true. Unless that IC is heavily heatsoaked and 70s doesn't sound heat soaked.

I have tested with consistent test procedures with vastly different starting temps and the results were within 2F of each other. The bottom line is the ambient temperature and velocity of air moving through the intercooler heavily dictate the ending IAT... assuming the IC is not incredibly heat soaked.

One last thing before I leave this thread. The info is there and people can decide what they wish. I never wanted to start a flame war, but the independent testing clearly speaks for itself.

I feel this is turning into a flame war, so I am moving on.
