Limp mode?

So at lunch I had a little fun on the service road and gunned it. Shifted as I normally do at 6500 and then I got an engine malfunction light and it went into limp mode. Pulled over and turned the car off and back on and everything was fine again. Just for measure I gunned it again and it was fine. All I have is a procede v4. Should I be worried?

Did u read the code with the procede? It should still be readable even though the limp is gone. Without the actual code, troubleshooting is impossible. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about but it's always nice not to guess.

Haven't had a chance since I was on my way back to work. I'll try to take a look at it after work. Do I just plug it into the laptop and check using the software?

Just had that same vanos solenoid replaced in the Wif's car. Got it back today. If you need the code I can get it and post it.

I have a stock 335i. Same exact thing happened to me. 1st, 2nd, then 3rd all to about 6500rpms then BING... engine light. Just the nature of the beast, sometimes it gets a wild hair.

kinda confused as to how to read the codes. here's what i did (after watching the video a few times).

1. plug in laptop to procede. turned on datalogging.
2. got in car, turned ignition to ON. closed door.
3. hit throttle. heard DING and the code that i saw turned on.

at this point i wasn't sure what to do so i did it a few times.
4a. got out of car after hearing code turn on, and stopped data logging. looked at file, wasnt sure what i was looking at
4b. got back into car after turning on datalogging again, hit throttle, code comes on. hit throttle again to clear code. got out and stopped datalogging.

ok what now? i saved both data sets and opened them. i see graphs but no clue what im doing :/

There is no need to datalog anything. The code reading process is very simple. All the info you could need is here: http://vishnutuningforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2

Basically get communication with your laptop. Make sure "CAN DME Codes" are one of the 10 dataloggable parameters. With the ignition ON (engine off), go full throttle and you will hear a 'ding' and see the MIL light come on. If you look at the CAN DME Codes display in your laptop, you will see the code number. If there is more than one code, you will see them alternative in 2 second intervals.

To erase the codes, simply repeat the procedure. If you tried this procedure a few times, it's likely that you accidentally deleted the codes. So you'll need to trigger the code again and be careful to just do the procedure once until you record the codes.
