I am not proud of the fact that I saw it during my viewing of that garbage ass show.... but I did.. I blame it on MLB for not having a single game on in my area.

I read an in-depth synopsis the one day.
The ENTIRE reason is because of the number, and quality of cams now. It's also why there's less 'thinking'/'dramatic' movies and more action, etc.
3D movies don't work for cams, thus people are forced to actually GO to the movies, and can't download (plus it's a higher pricetag for the flicks).

These 2 combined aspects means 3d movies aren't going anywhere any time soon

There is a huge media wide push for 3D. From home TV's to theaters. It is the next named 'must-have' technology. Since going higher def than 1080p is ridiculous, and there is no current need for a form of media with higher capacity than Blu-ray.

All that being said, I don't buy it one bit. The 3d in movies is often flaky at best, and the technology for it has been around for years and never caught on. The fact they have to label them as 3D movies tells it all. When a movie is truly immersive and depicts all 3 dimensions naturally, that is when the tech has actually evolved. Until then it is just recycled BS.

One of my other huge gripes about it is that the 3D version of movies choose for you which aspects need to be focused on. In Avatar, when in that lab in the 3D version, only the foreground equipment is even in focus. At least in a 2D movie I can focus in on whatever I choose to look at, not what they depict is the most relevant image in the frame.

that's a good point as well, 3D has now become the 'must-have', because there hasn't been anything to top bluray
