Stock Radio - what does local-xx mean

I just purchase a pre-owned 2007 328xi, with a stock radio and sat (/w NAV and idrive) - I'm not currently interested in the subscribing to sat yet, but I have a question (and it may be related to having sat installed).

What does "Local-1 or Local-2, etc mean on the channel display, also when using RDS. I can't see the call-signs of many of these radio stations, which I believe are transmitting RDS. Also on my previous 2001 330i I could see the song title also when enabling RDS - have I lost that option on my 2007 328xi?
