Affect on e90s

It seems the sedan will be revealed in March 2012, but dont things take much longer (almost 6 months to a year) to get to Australia (Right hand drive and stuff)? Also, how will that affect the e90s pricing. If I get a 2011 e90, will my cars price drop significantly after the F30s released as it will be the 'old' shape. Maybe people with e46s will know how their cars price fared once the e90 was released. |

I would think there would be a significant drop in e90 prices when the new models announced so I would wait for the next model to be out rather than buy a 2011 e90. Offcourse if you planned on buying a F30 (didn't know that's what it would be called , you might have to sell your e90 much before anyone gets wind of the new model to still get a good price. Not sure how well or badly the e43's prices have fared after the e90's launch, am sure someone here could throw light on that.

By the sound of it, the new model will be on our streets around this time in 2 years time. All cars depreciate and as a rule of thumb, the more money it cost, the more you loose. The reality is that there are too many factors that come into play to determine what a car will be worth down the track. Regardless of the new model coming out in two years time, factor on depreciation hitting you at a min rate of 25% per year.
Regardless what a salesman will tell you, I would count on a 3 year old 3 series only being worth a max of 50% at trade in. |

Safe to say you'd get more for an identical km/condition F30 over an E90 especially in the 2-3 years after release. Beyond that less of an issue, and anyway not a great amount in total perhaps as the car would be 5-plus years old.
More an issue is how long you are planning to keep it and how you'd feel driving around in a car which is to be superceded when only 12 months old I suppose.

if you are planning to keep your car for a while, dont think it is an issue once the F30 has been released in 2012. at least you'll get all the extra goodies as BMW will provide more incentives to move the old stocks in preparation for a new production line.

Hoping some E46 owners might be able to tell how the E90 affected their prices. |

Personally I wouldn't get an E90 next year. It's too close to when the next model will come out - unless you get a major discount on it.
I did just buy a new E90 330d, but then I wanted a car now and it is 2010 now, not 2011. I'd be thinking along the lines of: - Secondhand E90 now - Wait it out until the next 3-series turns up - Cough up more $$$ for a new generation 5-series now Personally I initially dismissed the 5-series as being a bit too big for me, but I'm half wishing I got one now. You get a lot more goodies cf the current E90 like 8-speed tranny and it does feel a step above in luxury when you are inside. |

But as others have said - if you are keeping the car for a long while, just buy it when you want it and forget about what is released in the meantime. By the time you want to trade a 2011 E90, BMW would probably have released a mid-life upgrade of the F30. There is always a newer model on the horizon.

QFT... Buy the car that suits your needs when you need it, there will ALWAYS be something new & exciting released at a later date.
I've got no regrets whatsoever buying an '09 E90 and I'm well aware there will be probably 2 updates before I'm ready for a new car. |

Still have it until the F30 arrives. New lease of life with a PBX box since Nov 2009. Great upgrade. Hope this helps.

My 1998 E46 was traded in for $30k in July 2005 for my E90, which, at the time, cost a little less than $100k on the road. If I remember correctly, I bought my E46 for around $75k back in 1998 and traded my 1992 E36 in for it.
