Is it worth getting a BOV?

So I've been going back and forth wit my bro about getting an bov, he's reasoning is that its gay and will make the car sound cheap ! My take is that, we always been hearing the growl of a BMW but now on top of that you can get a little pshhhhh to go along. I like the sounds but i also don't want it to sound trendy, how many people actually have bov, or dv's. Let me know your opinions

I like mine, if for nothing else than seeing someone in traffic look at my car as if to say WTF?

I took mine off the car for a little while and I'll be honest and say I miss it. Is it worth it...? That's all personal preference. In my opinion if you buy one used like I did... then yes maybe. If you buy it new... no. It doesn't do anything to aid the performance of the car... it jus sounds cool. I should also note that it's a bit of a pain in the ass to switch out with the stock airbox.

I read that they are useful for running high boost as the stock DV are not strong enough to stay closed at high boost.

The only issue is using a BOV with a MAF. The extra burst of air can cause stalling in some vehicles.

Unless he has an N55 then this is a non-issue. The N54 uses a MAP sensor.

A lot of people on these boards will give you crap for it... but I get quite a few compliments about it. Just don't drive like a douche bag or look like one and you're in good shape lol

Sweet, MAP is so much better! Thanks for the info. I just assumed that it was MAF because the stock diverters were recirculated. I didn't give it much thought that I didn't see the MAF on the dual intakes or airbox. I have two BOVs just sitting and I was hesitant to put one on because of that reason.

I come from the Supra community were pretty much everyone has aftermarket BOV. I personally love the sound of a good BOV.

I liked the AA BOV I had on my 135, the psshh sound was intoxicating. With that said, if you don't like that sound, then it's not worth it.

I would rather invest in an upgraded upper charge pipe + Forge DV's. They almost sound like a BOV.

i have the tial and i like it. it's not too obnoxious, and as long as you stay out of boost, you'd never know it was there (for subtle driving w/ your date in the car, lol). get it if you like the sound
