Dealer Tire & Rim Warranty
So when I bought my 335d last week, in the finance room i decided to get the tire & rim warranty. It cost like $1,800 for 5 years and sounded pretty good, nail in tire or bubble and new tire. Bent rim, new tire. That sounds good here in NYC with our terrible roads but I dont drive to abuse, i watch out for potholes and such. However I already used this warranty once, i got a nail in my rear tire which was covered under warranty ($430 if i had to pay) Now i know you can't patch a runflat but technically you can if its not in the sidewall and you don't drive on it while flat for too long.
My issue is that the Potenza RE050's that are on their now (Staggered Sports package) are very expensive (great tire don't get me wrong) but with a tread life so short i can't see myself getting more than 10,000 miles out of them. a set of 4 are $1,200 and they are summer tires. It gets cold here too so i'm gonna need spare rims and tires for winter. So i'm thinking would it be better to cancel my warranty and get all that money back? Put non runflats that would ride a lot better and put a tire that has a longer tread wear. I dont' have a tool storage area under my trunk because i have a "d" (urea tanks) I'd get a patch kit & pump. What do you guys think? cancel my warranty? what are your experiences? I dont want to put all seasons but i might, i had continental DWS's on my G35 and I LOVED THEM!! Thanks guys! |

I'd cancel for sure, particularly if you have to restart everything again every 10K miles. The terrible life-span and slamming ride were the reasons I got rid of the B-stone bricks, too.

For that price I would cancel. Got my 5 year warranty for $600. Replaced one rear tire so far that had a nail no questions asked. Dealer billed warranty company $400, so one more replacement will have more than paid for the warranty, and I just started getting a slow leak in the front passenger tire.

Hi, my question is when you find out there is a nail in your tire, does it have to be on the car when you bring it in? I only found the nail in my RFT when I changed the summer to allseasons, can they still replace it? And do you call the dealer or the insurance agent.

I'm not sure if it has to be on the car or not, but just do everything through the dealer. I never go through the insurance directly.

I got the tire and rim insurance for the same price. I bought the car in March of 2009. I've already been through one rim and 4 tires. I'd say I got my moneys worth already and I still have 4 years left. Trust me I know the tires suck and their loud as hell even if u hit a small bump. But being worry free about flat tires and bent rims especially in the area we live in is definitely worth it to me. If you switch to non runflats and you get a flat on highways like the cross bronx where you have no where to pull over then youd have to call a tow truck which most of the time damages the bottom of your car depending on the guy whos doing it. So youd have to buy a spare tire kit if you wouldn't wanna worry about that which is I think $335 or up. Don't forget the possibility of bending or cracking your rim. At least with with run-flats you'll make it to the closest bmw dealership and they'll switch your tires and rim if necessary with no questions asked...just my two cents
