Sending Google Maps location to my Car's Sat Nav

Excuse my newbie question.

When people used to mention that you can send Google Maps locations to your car's Sat Nav I always thought it was something that only 08> cars had with the fancy HD based Sat Nav's.

I have a e92 56 plate which uses the 2010-01 DVD for Sat Nav. I'm aware that BMW Assist can be used on my car to get these locations.

Thing is I'd like this service but my cars out of warranty. Do I need a BMW Assist subscription? If so how much is it. I've heard of people getting this subscription free for 3 yrs as the previous owner never used this service. I don't think my previous owner used this service. Is this something I could get hold of?

Don't really want to be paying for this service as it won't get used lots but on a few occasions per month.

Thanks

found this:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/connected...bmwuk,00.html#

Called them and I only qualify for 6 months free membership as my car was built pre March (or September) 2007

I've signed up hoping they make a mistake and let me have the service for 3 years for free....you never know!

BMW website gives info you know.

From memory the dealer is supposed to be able to get it sorted for you but in my experience they didn't. I rang them and sorted it that way and think they sent me a message to the car saying it was up and running.

Google maps is a good feature tho.

Wahey, registered online. Was in my car earlier and selected BMW Assist on my iDrive, it downloaded some updates and bingo it's live. Hmmm just sure what to use it for now lol, maybe prank calls to BMW if I'm bored in traffic
