E92 LCI LEDs -> E90 LCI for angel eyes
I haven't been to find anyone chat about this, but what is the tech behind the LEDs in the E92 LCI? Is it a single LED, or array of LEDs (like OSS), etc? I'm asking since I'm getting my E90 LCI delivered in a month or so, so I'm wondering whether to simply swap a halogen for a LED (if that's the case), or if I should just get a Lux H8 if it's not possible? Anyone want to take apart their E92 LCI angel eyes and photodocument?

Nobody (that I've seen) with a LCI E92 has posted detailed pics of the headlight housing and realoem doesn't have updated diagrams online yet.
Check Ron1n's sticky at the top of this forum. The topic of LCI retrofits has been beat down and clutters up this board with 1/3 of the threads over the same topic. I added my assessment of the LCI headlamp housing in his thread. The gist of this is that the E92 LCI halo rings are built using the same type of optics but the LED-based illumination source is located underneath the housing and is better distributed to the light pipe optics. Just by poking around a 2011 E92 on the showroom floor, it appears each halo ring is illuminated by its own LED array. It does NOT use a ring of SMT LEDs like the OSS retrofit, but the source of the light pipe illumination can't be duplicated on any other headlamp housing. You'll have to use one of the current aftermarket H8 retrofit solutions on your E90. |
