Half engine light came on, who has dealt with this?
Driving yesterday, nothing serous, the half engine power light came on in yellow. I parked it, shut my car off for a few then turned it back on and it was gone and has not come back since. I know others have dealt with this from searching around. Was it related to any service that needed to take place? I'm just trying to figure out what to do or maybe what to look out for. Thanks.

I have had the same issue occur a number of times in the last couple of months, in my 2007 E92 with no mods at all (yet). The engine trouble light coming on, with degraded power until the engine is turned off, then all is fine.
I went to the local dealer a few weeks ago, and after a pretty long system check and test drive they came back and and asked me if I was filling up with "bad gas", meaning from Walmart/Murphy Oil, Food City (a grocery chain in TN), and some others. In fact I had, with 92 octane premium. I was told that this "bad gas" can somehow trigger fuel flow (I think) fault codes, even if there is no actual issue with the engine. In my case, he said my engine was running perfectly, but that until all the old gas has cleared out of the tank, I might get another fault code, requiring another trip to the dealer to clear it (I don't yet have another way to clear codes). And that has happened a couple of times since. Pretty annoying... |

Changed to 99 Octane (Shell V-Power) petrol and now light has gone away. I'm in UK so reckon you guys use different octane measurements. (UK is AKI i think - check Wikipedia for sure) Basically, use as a high an octane rating gas as you can get. It gives more power (upto 20bhp), as well as preventing the half-power light. |
