Oil Filler Cap Removal? New Cap
OK, I consider this a Mod, so I'll ask it here. And yes, I did Search to no avail!
I have a nice looking Aluminum oil filler cap I want to use but it isn't readily apparent how to get the OEM oil filler cap & retainer off of the engine. I've turned and turned and pulled, but it seems I may have to destroy it to get it off. Is there a way to get it off in tact in case I want to re-install it later? UPDATE: Given the number of "views" without an answer, I decided to give it a go one more time. It turns out there are 3 tabs around the outside of the filler hole that hold the filler cap retainer onto the lip. Placing a small screw driver along the inside of the retainer and prying up on one corner is enough to allow you to then pry it off the tabs. Pretty simple after all as I suspected it might be. I was able to get it off in one piece so I can put it back on when I sell or trade this car. Love the look of the Gunmetal Aluminum Cap I found : http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p706...duct_info.html Last edited by ChasVS; 08-29-2010 at 10:57 AM.. |

Be careful with that cap i had it on my 355 for about a year and it fell out and i had oil all over the interior of my hood and the engine What a mess!
I went back to the factory cap. |

Hmm, will keep an eye on it, but can't remember ever having an oil cap fail unless not tightened properly.
