New tyres = New car!
I have just had my front tyres changed as they were beyond bald on the extremeties. My god what a transformation! I decided to go with runflat tyres again despite the crashy ride and the astronomical expense. But when you price them up compared to normal tyres of a decent make I was surprised by how much difference there actually was compared to the RFT especially if you ring around.
Anyway, I found that the front tramlined like hell since having new tyres put on the back (about 10,000 miles ago) it really hunted out camber changes and made quite severe jerks across the lanes especially where lorry ruts had developed. The tyres were also really noisy (to the point where I though the wheel bearing was going!). I had the new fronts fitted with 51,000 on the clock (Bridgestone Potenzas £170 each) and it has totally transformed the ride and handling, the confidence to push on through the corners has returned and it fairly flies round the bends, tracking the corner and not deviating. I know many have changed to non-RFT and I really really really thought about it, to the point I had bored my missus, my Dad, My mates, my colleagues. I think If I'd gone on about it anymore I'd have been lynched. Anyway that's enough I just wanted to come on and say how happy I am again with my nearly 3 year old car!!!! ![]()

new tyres do help alot, but when mine are up im changing to conti sport contact 3 non rft's - apparently they really improve the ride from being crashy to supple. im told grip is about the same so the gain is only in ride but i do alot of miles and this is a big advantage for me

I had Bridgestone Potenza RE050 and have replaced like for like. Other than the crashiness and the cost I have had no issue and one set of tyres at 51,000 miles I think is pretty good all be it most of that has been done on the motorway. When I do take it on the twisties the grip has been pretty good. Although 255 section and 177bhp might mean there is more grip than power anyway!
If I still have the car when it comes to change I have no doubt the RFT non-RFT debate will rumble on!
