logic 7 and iPod
I would like to know how is the sound quality of Logic7 with iPod compared to CD. Just thinking of removing the CD changer from my order.
Thanks for advice. |

Remove the CD changer. Even if you never attach an iPod to your car, you can burn mp3's directly to a CD and get more songs than you would with a 6 disc changer. I burned a CD with mp3's and got about 150 on there, which would be like 10 cds with 15 songs each.
Also, the song names and play length are displayed in my iDrive screen as they're playing. Overall sound is great with the Logic 7, no complaints.

I bet the CD changer also plays MP3's. In that case you might calculate how much MB's are on your iPod and if that's =< 6+1CD (+1 if you have Nav) then the changer might be attractive.
I wish the USB connection was available a month ago, you might be able to get that now for the perfect iPod operation. iPod solely through AUX is more cumbersome to operate than MP3 CD's. I like my Logic7 and don't hear the difference though, MP3 quality is more determining in the end I guess. My focus would be on ease of use. |

I have 8gb nano. I was more worried about the sound quality mp3 vs CD, but I guess that will be sufficient. I also prefer the option which is easy to use and thus thinking getting rid of the changer if the iPod really works. And yes, I will have navi in the car.
Does iPod connecitivity come as standard nowadays from the factory. My dealer told me few weeks ago they will install it free of charge. |

What comes free from the factory is the AUX audio input which allows the iPod to play through the radio but you have to control the iPod at the iPod.
The dealer installed adapter ($319+$200 or more installation) and the factory 6FL option ($400 on 3/2007 prod and later) allow you to control the iPod from the steering wheel and other radio/iDrive controls. I would question whether a dealer would install the latter free of charge. |

sound quality with iPod can be improved if you record files at higher than the 128kb/s default bit rate setting. I believe 256 may be the highest rate supported by the Logic 7.
I am recording everything at 256 kb/s. my fiance's iPod is all at 128, and i can notice the difference. things just seem crisper with higher bit rate.
