New comer to NY/NJ
Hey guys,
Going to work in NY starting Sept 1, bringing my baby with me to the big city and live at newport. Some really common/ easy questions I have on mind need your help to answer since i'm totally new to the place. 1. is NJ/NY area running oct 93? what kind of gas station you guys go to? 2. winter tire, what brand and size you guys running? 3. underneath coating? I heard during winter it is going to be rusty for suspension, do you guys have the car coating? where do you guys take the car to? 4. any tips I need to knw/ pay attention during winter? 5. if i keep my CA lisence plate, will they give me crap? cuz i heard from some ppl that police usually dnt like to pull over out-state cars due to different computer systems... Any inputs or advises will be well-appreciated and thanks for the time and help B.Regards, Kev |

2. Dunlop M3s, size depends on the wheel you're running. In general the narrower the tire and the smaller the rim size the better it will work. 3.No undercoating, rinse it to get sale off if you're worried 4. Black Ice, and salt trucks. Some of them will shoot salt and hit your doors, I've never had it do any damage, but the sound alone of the salt hitting my car pisses me off. Pot holes get very bad in the winter/after winter. 5. If your license is still in CA they can't do much, but according to the law you're required to change your license within 60 days of moving to NJ, or 30 days if youre an NY resident.

1. 93 octane everywhere
2. great success with blizzaks 3. as much as i hate machine car wash, i'll drive through one every few weeks to get rid of the salt. as long as its a brushless machine, you should be fine. 4. black ice and pot holes GALORE. i bent 2 rims during the last 2 winters. not even the biggest pot holes but throw in moderate speed and cold temps on top of that... 5. no clue |

1. 93 octane, I stay with Sunoco. I've seen Shell using some "Island transportation" tankers filling up their stations. And, those are the same tankers that fill up Gulf/BP/Mobil. I've only seen Sunoco tankers fill Sunoco stations.
2. Not using winter tires. But when the roads are cleared, A/S tires works pretty well...just use caution and drive with common sense. 3. Nope. Just rinse 4. Can't say this enough, POTHOLES. Even taxi's with 16" wheels are dented. AND they have like half a foot of sidewall. Potholes are crazy. 5. Seen people with CA plates. I'm not sure what the exact law is but you need to go to the DMV to get it registered and get NY plates. |

Everybody basically gave u great advice already. I'd add that if you have a 335i(xi) I would fill up at Shell. I used to fill up at BP and Gulf but once I started using Shell, I actually noticed the car running smoother and stronger. Not to mention my fuel pump went out on me after filling up with Gulf (maybe a coincidence) but since I switched to Shell I've had no worries.
If u don't know exactly what "black ice" is, I suggest u just look it up. It's extremely dangerous. And one more great piece of advice I could give u is: GO TO BIMMERSTOCK!!
