It plays, but it plays really low
So I installed a JL Audio Amp 500 WATTS RMS to a JL Audio 10" Sub. I used everything that was said in the DYI expect for the signal taping. I used the OEM Wiring thats supposed to go to the Harman Kardon amplifier. I figured it was the same color coded wires and I had signal on them. I hooked everything up. It works, but the sub plays really low. I played with all the settings and nothing works.
What did I do wrong? |

So you using the output from the headunit? or the amp? Are any filters on? Is your gain adjusted? Are you sure your getting a full signal and not one that is actively crossed-over?

He cannot use the output from the headunit (if it is indeed a HK system) since it is optical. I bet you he tapped one of the high/midrange signals high-passed at 150Hz.

You know when you take the covers in the trunk, right in the middle of the trunk, there's some wiring there that's useless if you don't have the HK system right?
In the DYI I read, it said to tap onto the Red/Blue wire for signal. I passed it thru the filters and maxed out the gain. Then from the filter, I connected with RCA to the amplifier. The whole point was that I did not want to tap myself into the wires that were coming out of the OEM amplifier on the left side (way too tight and all twisted together. For some other reason, my plug doesn't want to come out of the amplifier so it's even harder to tap into those. I tought, since the other wires that are there in the middle of the trunk for nothing were good as well especially knowing they have the same color codes. |

Wow, I was starting to write a response but I don't know where to start, and I don't know how to help you without insulting you first. The best advice I can give you is to contact forum member Technic and buy his harness. It is a plug-and-play solution and you cannot screw anything up.

Ok I think there's a misunderstanding. When I say the wiring that goes to the HK amplifier, I have the wires in the car, but the actual HK AMP is not there. I only have the small black amplifier on the left side of the trunk.

Yes, your system is HiFi. Check this thread for a better description of which wires you need to tap in your system: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=hifi |
