335: Low oil after 3k miles

I just had a warning indicator come on that I'm a quart low on oil. That normally wouldn't concern me too terribly much, but I'm surprised that I'd need to add oil this soon (only 3,500 miles).

I don't see any signs of leakage in the garage. I drive it fairly aggressively, but I'm not a drag racer or anything. Is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks in advance...

Unusual. Take it to the dealer, have them check it out. Could be a sensor...at least they will put in new oil for you if you actually need it....and maybe a free car wash.

If the warning light is intermittent then it's most likely a bad sensor. Free car washes rock.

It's normal. There's a bulletin out that the 335i consumes oil fairly often iirc.

you have my car in RWD triga... i mean you have everything. ha
and my x5 does that intermittently with washer fluid. i just unscrew the cap and wash it off with a rag and that cleans the sensor. then it happens again a week later. whatever!

it should have told you how much oil to add. something like 1.0qt or 0.5qt. 3500 miles on a turbo car and 1 quart of oil is normal.

Yup. Nothing like having your pride and joy washed and hand rubbed err...dried by people you don't know using some cloths that just did four other cars.

Don't let them wash the car. Especially if you have a dark color.

I already have swirls in my paint. They used auto polish on a wheel..the same crap they use at the body shop to detail cars when they are finished, and it has
swirls in it now. Im going to get it professionally detailed next week most likely.

And yes there is a bulletin out for the E90s concerning the oil level sending unit going crappy. But it usually fails and says 'oil too high! remove oil!' or something to that nature.

This is normal, I had the same problem, and I decided to change the Oil at 7000K. What happends is that (this is what the dealer said): "the car in its breaking in process will eat a lot of oil, but adding one quart it will be just fine". However, I thought it was better the change the whole thing . The car felt better, or maybe it was just me.

And yes, I think you have been pulling the Pedal to the Metal in your driving. :rocks: lol
