Experimenting with MP3

Having spent all weekend playing with MP3 CD's / DVD's...

First on my E90 only discs recorded in multi session play.. discs burn't as DAO ( Disc at once ) do not play.

Umanaged to get perfect tack listings.. i.e. full characters, no underscores etc..
To get it perfect each track had to have a file name aas the track title except compilations which were track/artist.

The first time I ever made a disc I used iTunes and got the tack playing to have two lines for display. I have never been able to recreate this.

Does anyone know how?

Have a look here Dave- Nero settings that do work.

You do need to have the filenames organised properly to see them in the folder, but if you select 'Details' in the menu, which appears after you click on a folder or song, then you will see the ID3 tag information for the track which is currently playing (2 lines of display).

If you've ripped the tracks from CD, the tags should be created using the ripping software, otherwise you can edit them manually.

All the best.

Thanks Viv, great to hear from you again.

You , of course, are right. I hadn't noticed that there were all those options below the first few, now I see the idrive scroll icon!

I didn't use the options from the link you give, I used other ones decribed in another link and these options also work perfectly in Nero, giving absolutely full characters and full length and no underscores. I am sure both are fine.

I have also noticed that the DVD cannot cope with a large number of tracks on a DVD ( +1000) as it obviously does not have a big cache and every time you change menus it can pause the music whilst it tries to load in the menu. Some discs it will not play at all due to their size (I think).

Is this your experience?

Hi Dave.

When I had the dealer install the software update in my car, they told me that mp3s stored on DVD would only work upto a maximum of 7 directories containing a maximum of 7 sub-directories.

I've never bothered testing this out, to be honest, but I think there is a limit to the number of files the system is able to read from the DVD.

I usually just replace the files on the CD-RWs in the CD-changer, when I get bored of them, so don't normally bother using mp3 DVDs.

It would have been good to see you at the UK2 meeting at Donington Park this Saturday- perhaps we'll see you at the next meet.

All the best.

Who said I won't be there?

I am hoping I can still make it... it may not be for that long... maybe 12:00pm till about 3:00pm or so and it depends on the wife allowing me parole... we will see. I may PM you later.

I would be tempted to come in my Wifes E46 325 SMG factory photoshoot car, as that is a far more interesting and unique car than my E90..... but then it might stand out when in line with all the others!!

Just a quick question.
When you talk about dvd mp3s are you saying you can put them in the sat nav slot and they will play?
I must admit I have wanted to try this but my dealer told me that anything other than the sat nav disk will jam in the slot and there would be a charge to remove the non complient disk. He said loads of people have made that mistake and paid the price for it.

Yes- mp3 files stored on a DVD will play without any problem- the DVD appears in the list of sources in the entertainment menu.
This assumes you have the ability to play mp3 cds now.

I've never had any disc jam in my DVD slot- I tried sticking 'Pulp Fiction' into a demo car (before I got mine) & that didn't stick or play either!

You shouldn't believe everything, or pretty much anything your dealer tells you!

I have problems with MP3 CD in Idrive E91

I have had problems with skipping before but for some reason. The CD I just put in lists all the folders and files fine but show all tracks to be 0 seconds long. I see the nero settings, anyone know the parameters needed for the mp3 encoding? Any help appreciated .
