My gripes with the nav:

1. Slow.

2. The iDrive is a pain to use. I dont like having to push the knob left/right/up/down. Pushing down on the knob and twisting it feels natural, pushing the knob in a direction doesn't.

3. It is a royal pain in the neck to switch between radio and nav. Want to change the station or scan stations, you have to go to the Entertainment section and fumble with the iDrive. Then want to go back to where you were on the map same thing, in the meantime, the song on the radio is over and now their playing a commercial.....

Maybe it's better with the direct (not Aux) iPod connection ?

4. Speech recognition is also slow and clumsy.

Added:

5. On the radio, I cant go to Preset 4 (take your pick) without cycling thru all the other presets. That's retarded.

Now that you cannot get the Nav saystem (too bad) I recommend the Garmin Nuvi 650. It has all the bells and whistles and can be moved from place to place. Also has a built in bluetooth and FM modulator that allows you to play Nav commands and phone through the car's FM radio. Additionally you can add an SD card with lots of MP3 music and play it through the car radio. Sweet after thought.

Good luck with the car !!

Great choice with the Nav. The elegance of the integration and the WOW factor to your friends will pay for itself... Enjoy!

Might be off topic...but I wonder how long it will take for Nav to become a standard equipment on a 3-series (at least the highest trim ones)...10 years?

It´s not standard on most BMWs so I would say it´s an impossible question to answer.

I really regret not getting it, but money is an issue for me. Remember that you're not giving up NAV alone, but voice activation of everything or mostly all your features. The NAV is also integrated, so it looks a lot better than some stupid tomtom in your 30K+ car, because since I'm using one, I believe it detracts a lot from the overall prestige of the car. Inav makes it a lot easier to access more features, etc. if you have the money, get it, think about it this way...6 to 8 years and 2000, thats what about 335 a year and you get updates with it, not too shabby I think, but thats just my 2 cents
