looks like i have got myself a 335 se coupe as the deal out of the x5 was just too good to turn down.
car is going into evolve shortly as soon as i get it for power upgrade but i am also contemplating new brakes
i will only ever use car on the road do i need to change the discs and if so for a big brake kit will i have to change wheels as they are only 17's at present
i want to go for stealth look which is why i have chosen one with multiple stone chips on front!!

If you want to go for big brakes, you'll be looking at the likes of the AP kit. The BMW BBK is not ideal for the 335i as you'll not get much of an improvement in braking performance.

However with the AP setup you'll need to go for 18" wheels as they won't clear underneath a set of 17"s.

Personally I don't think a big brake kit is necessary if all your driving is normal road based. The OEM discs are fine. Just change the pads for some Cool Carbon ones or something like that, and upgrade the fluid and hoses to Castrol SuperResponse Dot 4 and Goodridge braided hoses. Far far cheaper than a BBK !!

Once my pads/discs are done, I'm planning to go down the non-oem route. I had planned on PF discs and pads, only to find out they didn't do them for our cars. So, have done a bit of research and have found hi-spec do a great front bbk kit. It's no way near the price of AP or Brembo. My m3 had pf discs with hi-spec monster calipers and they worked fantastic...amazing bite!!

However, E92fan has made a great point in that sticking some better pads onto oem discs coupled with braided hoses will transform the car too and for little money. I just feel my driving is a bit too spirited and therefore feel just in spending that bit more for stopping power.

We are on a proper modding spree!

As Tony says, the 335 brakes are very good as they are, but can be enhanced with upgraded fluid, hoses & pads.

All options mentioned (stock, enhanced, replaced) will be ok with your mapped 335d.

Yes have been doing loads to it ready for the Pod on Sunday!

Nope not remapped yet-think Nov time as need to save a few more pennies as getting the exhaust done first

Are you having it 'Evolved' and what are you doing to the exhaust?

Yes "Evolved" definitely as i like the switch idea too

Exhaust will be new chrome tips, cat-bakc system and rear silencers to give a little more of a pur to it

Been to Magnaflow for advice and also trying Powerflow as well (as they are local) I understand to get the exhaust done before the remap as it will help the engine to breathe better

Are there any cool carbon pads available for 130i ? if not then whats the next best thing. I have tried to google but getting nowhere same with the Goodridge braided hoses. Any source you know of ?

I've got a Cool Carbon Pad kit coming from the states as I couldnt find anywhere in the UK that stocked them for 335x

he has them instock for the 135i and 128i too, dunno how different they are to 130i http://www.autoindividual.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=298

Yes I have already checked. I think they are different to 130i but not 100%sure.

E92FAN, could you confirm this or is there any other place who do these brake pads for 130i or any other recommendations for the next best thing for 130i please.

RBF 600 Factoryline brake fluid meets standards:

•DOT 4
•SAE J 1703
100% synthetic brake fluid from polyglycol bases.

Very high dry boiling point of 312 °C / 593 °F
Very high wet boiling point 216 °C / 420 °F

Agreed. However you would be advised to change the Motul RFB600 (or RFB660) fluid at the very latest every year, whereas the Castrol Super Response fluid can be maintained within the standard BMW service schedule, which is typically a two year interval for brake fluid.

Apart from the Cool Carbon ones, what other pads would "work"/ fit with standard discs? I'm also after some performance pads as I can't afford to change the whole brake system....

Have you got yours and have you fitted them ? How easy they were to fit ?

Did you change the oem brakes lines with steel ones or still using the same old ones ?

Mines coming from the same place as well so looking forward to do the diy if i could.

Mine arrived last week. I wont be fitting them myself, I'll be paying a pro to do that!

I'm using the same old brake lines but will ask the tech if he can change them and the cost

I have got a pair of front cool carbon pads coming also. I also have a set of black goodridge brake lines coming and some Castrol Response fluid good to go.

I will post with a review once fitted.

I'm getting black lines custom made to keep them looking as stock as possible - should take aprox 10 days from order to delivery for custom lines.
