I didn't know why, on the rare occasions when I go through a car wash (the approved kind of course with people instead of brushes and the reason is primarily the undercarriage and salt), I always tell them NOT to remote the mats, just to vacuum them.
Now I know the reason.

I am not sure about the manager at the City view car wash, but their employees seem pretty honest to me. When my car was rear ended when I was turning into the car was, the guy who hit my car was saying that I did not use the blinker. But the workers at the city view car wash came to me silently and told me that he saw the blinkers, and he will testify for me. My place is about 1 minute away from the city view car wash, and my brother and I use that place all the time.

I moved to NJ about a year ago and I have been taking my cars there every few weeks to get washed. I always see the same guy behind the register. I never had a problem with them before and even recommended their car wash to others earlier in this thread. But for someone to suddenly get so rude over something as simple as car mats is ridiculous. All he had to do was admit that it was an innocent mistake and reimburse me, but instead he makes up this story about how no one removes mats from the cars except for him. While he was mid-sentence, there were at least 2 other employees removing mats from other cars. Then behind my back, tells my wife "your husband is a liar."
As far as the workers being honest, I am even starting to have second thoughts on that as well. Even before we realized that my mats were missing, she noticed that the workers were taking much longer to clean the interior of my car. Even cars that came in after me were already done. My wife speaks fluent spanish and asked a few of the workers what was taking so long. She came back to me very upset and said that the worker actually told her that he had no idea that she was spanish speaking, otherwise he would have gotten to it sooner. I have noticed that it usually took them longer to complete my car, but I just assumed that they were just being careful. This whole situation just disgusts me.

After seeing all these replies about not using automatic car washes, I'm beginning to think I should switch to a hand wash place, too. Any recommendations for places that are close to Summit? I got excited over the Union City recommendations, until I realized Union City does NOT equal Union. =(

I used to live in Hillsdale. Jersey in general is incredibly frustrating for car washing if you don't have access to a hose and your own garage (even the townhouse we rent down here in Cherry Hill now doesn't provide facilities to wash your car). Deicing drove me crazy up there because your car was covered (don't even look at your air filter unless you want to cry) in potassium chloride and there was no where to get it off save for automatic car washes for under $40 in North Bergen county. Ended up freezing my butt off schleping buckets of water downstairs many times just to try and keep up.

^ same here. I'm in the Morristown area and was looking for something closer. After the crappy swirl marks I got on my last ride using an automatic place -- I'm not taking any chances with the bimmmer

A step beyond detail in Patterson is really good. all hand wash, the best is the mini detail..$19.95 they do everything, wax it, door jams, wipe and dress the dash, tires. check it out...real easy to get to, rite off route 20 in patterson. takes about 20-30 minutes for them to do your car, but its well worth the wait.

Hey, bringing the thread back to life... it seems like most of these car wash places are cr@p HAHA...
Over the past 3 years, has anyone settled on one of these car washes (or a different car wash)?? Anyone a regular at any particular car wash around Jersey City or Hoboken??

I go to the same carwash every time and I'm pretty happy with it. I just tell them no brush. It's called Hoboken Car Wash at the intersection of Marin Blvd and Observatory Highway. Here is the link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...2&ie=UTF8&z=18

I have a 535i with M-Sport body kit, 18" rims and lowered on H&R sports and it more than clears the tracks.

Thought this was about jersey city area?
Englewood is not Jersey City. After you wash your car in englewood and it's super clean, by the time you get back to jersey city, the car has a layer of dust on it thanks to the clean jersey air, and brake dust all over the rims.
