"Winter" vs. "Snow" tires....
Is there a difference between the two?
I'm looking to get a set of snow tires for our random NE winters. Obviously they are meant to be used with some amount of snow on the ground. Driving on regular, dry, cold roads with them could be potentially dangerous. Is there a "Winter" tire that i can fit to use in cold weather with snow on the ground or not? I've got my M-sport 193s now that i plan on wrapping in some form of winter tire around November and dont want to have to change until the middle of march. At which point I'd like to mount a set of 19'' VB3s. Can someone help me out? If I'm going down the wrong path, someone please put me on the right one. Keep in mind this is the first time i ever planned on mounting winter tires. Thanks Joe.

they are both the same Joe ....
if you had asks difference between a good and average winter tire I would say you get what you pay for, check out the Tire Rack and read the reviews.

I've run Dunlop 3Ds and am going the pirelli sottozeros next. Really like both of them. Blizzaks are very highly rated but I feel they are too squishy on dry roads. The others are more of a compromise of that. Still very good on snow, but better when it's dry.

I am going with Michelin pilot Alpins this winter. I have an xi and live in the Boston area. Since you have the xi I would recommend a winter performance tire over a studless ice and snow. I have heard that the conti winter contact is a good compromise between the two but it's categorize as ice and snow by tirereack. Ive heard really good things about the Dunlop winter sport 3d as well.

Just pulled the trigger on the new Hankook winter i*cept evo. I went on the cheap this time but they are highly rated at Consumer Reports, similar scoring as the top rated Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 plus they are V rated and XL. It's a matter of a short time before I'll know if this was a wise decision as I usually don't buy anything but top brands like Michelin and Contis.

Same thing, but there's different kind of snow tires.
Some are high performance, more meant for cold and wet, while others, the nordic kind, are great on ice and snow and not so good in the wet.
