Any Skaters Here?

I haven't picked up a board since 6th grade but am getting back into it (inspired by seeing Lords of Dogtown and it'll be a lot easier getting around campus). Time to put my SB mids to good use. Got a whole new setup too. Anyone else?

I'd get a BMX. Much like skating, more practical though. OR a track bike

When I see older dudes (12+ year olds) on BMX bikes and backpacks all I can think of is "DUI" or "Drug Dealer" or a combination there of. Face it, if you can grow facial hair, you need to graduate to 26" or 700c tires at a minimum.

And we don't need any more hipsters on fixed bikes with no brakes...

If I were you I think I'd get a long board. Easier to cruise on... and bit more stable when you are carrying a backpack, etc. At least that's what I used to roll on when I was in college.

I don't think skating around campus is any easier than just walking. You're limited to paved paths and sidewalks, need to watch out for big cracks and rocks that could land you on your ass, and then have to deal with carrying the thing around. I mean I know people enjoy it and that's why they do it, but for me I just never saw the practical appeal.

I'd be doing it more for the fun of it - the quicker transportation is an added bonus (sometimes). I liked cruising while pulling an occasional tail flip or manual here and there

I skated for 10 years. I broke myself way too many times to the point that it hurts to walk, and especially skate.

I've BMXed for most of my life. Used to ride my S&M to class, with my backpack and no brakes.

LOL yea that's good then...I remember a roommate would leave for class on his board just after I would (he would pass me before I got to the end of the block) and we'd still get there at the same time due to me able to cut through buildings and walk on grass/gravel etc...

CSB

I still have a 10yr old setup probably from when I was kid, trying to build the lightest board...my memory is rusty but it's the Element Bam Margera "bat" deck with titan trucks (? what ever the super light aluminum ones were) with black bearings (can't remember the brand...) and spitfire wheels...and that aluminum hardware as well that had the silver bolt so you could see which side the front was

Would that be worth anything? It's used and the graphics aren't perfect but otherwise in good condition

i'm kinda in the same boat as well. i skated for years up until i was about 15...we had 3 different quarter pipes in our garage at one point that we would drag out into the street. being older now...I'm sure the body can't take a fall like it used too.

i still have my old setup in the garage...an old Andy Macdonald deck on Independents and Spitfires. I shouldn't say old...thats the most recent setup i had. The board that i would love to still skate on today would be my Santa Cruz Jeff Grosso...i loved that board more than life itself...and my dad ran it over while pulling his car out of the garage one day.

I used to skate...a LONG time ago! To date myself, I had:

1. A Steve Caballero deck, Rat Bones, and Indy trucks for the ramp. Same design as this, but in white.

2. A Mark Rogowski Vision deck, Kryptonic 63.5's, and indy trucks for the street. Man those 63.5's where some awesome wheels. lol My deck was like this one.

Good times.....but I won't get back on a board. Hell no. lol

I still have my Cab board...complete. I used it a few years ago as a dolly to move a spa. lol

Edit: This thread got me thinking of all the crazy shit I did when I was younger. One time, we went to San Francisco and street luged down the streets. We then got a bright idea and hiked up the steps at Coit Tower and luged all the way down the road....passing cars and shit. lol We were fricken crazy. We even luged down Lombard Street, passing cars. I wore out a pair of shoes that day (Vans of course) using them as brakes. Fun times!

"Skating" is for kids who like skinny jeans an Chiodos (maybe 5% actually take it seriously). Get yourself a long board and bomb some hills. Its 10x more exhilarating that ollying over a curb or some shit, not to mention its far more efficient for getting around campus.
