Light Weight Wheels (Advan RS-DF VS stockers)

I just wonder...what kind of benefits can you get from running light weight wheels such as Advan RS-DF (or some other brand with similar weight) comparing to stockers. Do you actually notice any performance improvement from daily driven or tracking???

Weight w/o tires:

189 Styling front 18x8.0 = 24.8 lbs.
189 Styling rear 18x8.5 = 26.3 lbs.

VS

Advan RS-DF front 19x9 = 18.4 lbs
Advan RS-DF rear 19x10 = 19.0 lbs

Thanks,

For every 1 kg of unsprung mass saved, it is similar to reducing 2x - 4x the same sprung mass...

The car will accelerate, turn and brake better.

As a general estimate, 1 pound of unsprung weight is equal to 10 pounds of static weight. (weight that is supported by the vehicle's suspension). So for example, with the weights your provided your stock 189s weigh a total of 102.20 lbs and the ADVAN RZ-DF weight 74.80 lbs. You're actually saving about 322 lb total or 80.50 lbs per corner!! Going with a light weight wheel such as the ADVAN RZ-DF is defintely going to make a big difference in terms of acceleration, braking, handling, and many other performance aspects of your vehicle. I'll shoot you over a PM with more details!

my car has improved massively with the Advan RZ-DF compaired to the CSL reps i had. Its much lighter and reactive on all conditions, steering wheel is much more precise. I did not expect such a big difference and i am very pleased with them. Now i just need to test them on the track.

The RZ-DF is definitely a great lightweight/Strong forged wheel from Advan.

Unsprung weight savings really come into play on acceleration and braking.
The lower unsprung weight is what will allow you to brake late and blast out of a corner better than when you have much heavier weight on the corners. The "felt" reduction in weight is definitely more than removing the equal weight from static/body components.

The key here is that Yokohama original designs has had a long history of racing and due to homologation rules, have always made lightweight cast wheels under the Advan line. They have kept true to their principles and worked their magic on a lightweight forged wheel. You can't go wrong with these, whether it is for looks or for performance.

this is a matte black set that we did on our customer's car.

My Advan RS weigh a little less than the DF, but mine are 18".

You will definitely feel a difference in the cars performance. Yes, wheels ARE a performance part when they are light weight.

The only thing that's going to "hurt" you is the 19" diameter. If you put the weight of the wheel farther away from the center line (i.e. 19" vs. 18"), then the rotational mass will have a stronger adverse affect.
